2022/23 National County Sports Meet Kick-off in Buchanan, Host Grand Bassa County, Bows to Neighboring River Cess County

The National County Sports Meet 2022/23 edition got underway with a standard and entertaining game between host Grand Bassa County and neighboring River Cess County at the famous open-air Doris Williams Sports Stadium in Buchanan on Saturday.

Earlier on Sunday the Kpatawee girls and the girls from Gibi Mountain played a homeless run in the first kickball match in Group B.

Gbarpolu County begins its county meet journey with an easier win over Sinoe County to move top of Group B’.

In kickball, Gbarpolu County collected a narrow one-zero home run over Sinoe County on Sunday.

In Voinjama City, Lofa County kick-starts their Group C campaign with a dramatic win over defending champions Nimba County at the newly renovated Voinjama sports stadium in Voinjama City.

Two quick first-half goals from the host were enough to grab a win over defending champions Nimba County.

In kickball, Lofa County held Nimba County to a one-all draw in the opening match.

At the same time in Group C,’ Bomi County defeated River Gee County 2-1 in football and 2-1 in Kickball.

Following the dramatic start to the 2022/23 National County Sports meet 1956 champions Maryland County was held to a goalless draw by all-time champions Grand Kru County at the Martha Tubman sports stadium in Happer City, Maryland County.

In the kickball match, Maryland county and Grand Kru County settled to a one-all draw.

The opening matches in football recorded four wins, four losses, and three draws across four venues in Liberia.

River Cess, Lofa, Bomi, and Gbarpolu counties all collected a win on match day one.

A total of Thirteen goals was scored by seven counties on match day one.

Grand Gedeh and Grand Cape Mount’s dramatic 2-2 draw recorded the highest number. of goals scored in a single match so far in the competition.
