The High Command of the Armed Forces of Liberia (AFL) has swiftly responded to distressing reports alleging the brutal beating of Jeremiah Beyan by AFL personnel in Lofa County on May 13, 2024.
Taking immediate action, the High Command has assumed control of the matter, initiating a preliminary investigation currently underway by the 23rd Infantry Brigade.
The AFL unequivocally condemns this reprehensible display of indiscipline, unprofessionalism, and unlawfulness. Our deepest concern and compassion go out to Jeremiah Beyan and his family during this difficult time.
We wish to reassure the victim, his family, and the general public that justice will be diligently and fairly pursued. Should any AFL personnel be found guilty as a result of the ongoing investigation, appropriate legal measures will be swiftly taken.
As a “Force for Good,” the AFL maintains a zero-tolerance policy against any form of misconduct or abuse of power by its personnel. We remain resolute in our commitment to combatting impunity and fostering a culture of accountability within our ranks.
The AFL is fully committed to transparency and accountability throughout this process, and we will provide updates as the investigation progresses.
