“Baseless and Unfounded”- Senate Protem Debunks Claims He’s Supporting Opposition Unity Party

Senate Pro-tempore Albert T. Chie has termed recent allegations that he was involved in purchasing vehicles for the opposition Unity Party as baseless and unfounded.

Addressing legislative reporters Tuesday at his Capitol Building office, Pro-temp Chie termed the allegation as a smear campaign to distract the ruling Coalition for Democratic Change headed by President George Weah.

Nearly a fortnight ago on 25th of May, reports trended via social media and a few stations alleging that the president pro Tempore of the Liberian Senate have purchased a certain number of vehicles for the Unity Party.

He indicated that at no time did he purchase any vehicle or made a donation of any kind, directly or indirectly, to the former ruling Unity Party.

The Pro-temp added that the lies started when it was posted on social media that the Unity Party had acquired 15 pickups and 73 motorbikes.

Senator Chie was among 19 senators that endorse the presidential bid of former Vice President Joseph Nyumah Boakai during the 2017 general elections and pointed out that the situation is now being exploited by those he considered opportunists who are constantly placing more inciting information on social media to confuse and laugh at the CDC.

At the same time, Pro-temp Albert Chie has openly challenged anyone to provide evidence that he has made such donations to the Unity Party.

The Grand Kru County also reaffirmed his support and commitment fully to the CDC and admonished members and supporters of the party to not believe the allegations against him.

“My fellow Liberians, we are in an election year, be careful to digest well what you hear and read before you believe, because political lies, character assassinations, rumors, fabrication with the intent to deceive you the masses will be the order of the day,” Pro-temp Chie noted.

“This information that I donated vehicles to the Unity Party is totally untrue, baseless unfounded and has now become a smear campaign to distract the attention of our noble institution, the mighty CDC. At no time have I purchased any vehicle for or made donation of any kind, directly or indirectly,” Pro-temp Chie said.

The Grand Kru County Senator has expressed optimizing that the ruling Coalition for Democratic Change-led Government headed by President George Weah will retain the presidency whether on the first ballot or the second. He said multiple opinion polls show majority of the electorates are in favor of President Weah’s reelection bid.
