Deadly Storm Damages School Building, Leaves 250 Students Out of School In Bong County

JARKPA-TA, Bong County – Students at the Jarkpa-ta Elementary School in Sanoyea District, Bong County are currently out of school as a result of a violent rainstorm that de-roofed the school building.
The incident took place last Friday during a heavy downpour of rain that was characterized heavy storm that damage the roof affecting the entire building that is comprised of ten classrooms, offices and a reading room.

Addressing a team of reporters over the weekend on the school’s campus, the Principal John Gbokolo and the students’ Council Government, Blessing Leetor said normal learning activities have been disrupted due to the devastating condition of the facility.
The duo said if nothing is timely done by the government of Liberia, they might not complete the six-marking period and exams that were in progress.
Jarkpa-ta Elementary School was constructed in 2011 by the Government of Liberia through the Ministry of Education to caters to the educational needs of students in the region, but with the current situation, the school authorities and the parents are worried that the over 250 students may not complete their school year.

The principal and the school’s prefect, are calling on the government through the Ministry of Education and partners to quickly intervene and repair the roof to enable the students complete the school year successfully.
K-news gathered that teachers of the school are being compensated by the Parents, Teachers Association (PTA) of the school.
