Determine Girls Win CAF Champions League Qualifiers
The Liberian double female champions defeated Union Sportive Des Parcelles Assainies (USPA) of Senegal 1-0 in the regional qualifiers at the Antoinette Tubman Stadium (ATS) in Monrovia on 21 August.
Determine Girls will represent the West African Football Union (WAFU Zone ‘A’) at next year’s Total Energies Women’s Champions League finals in Morocco.
There were jubilant scenes at the ATS when the final whistle was blown for many reasons.
Guinea international Bountou Sylla scored in the 26th minute to put her club ahead of the visitors who were also making their CAF Women’s Champions League debut.
It is the first time since football was founded for a team from Liberia to qualify for the CAF Champions League group stage.
Determine Girls Striker Bountou Sylla and goalkeepers Jackie Touah were named as the most valuable players (MVP) and best goalkeepers while Mandé took home the fair play team.
Mali’s AS Mandé, who were the inaugural WAFU champions in Cape Verde in 2021, finished as runners-up, having drawn 1-1 with the Liberians at the Samuel Kanyon Doe sports complex in Paynesville on 17 August and goalless with USPA at the ATS on 19 August.
Determine Girls Captain Migret Steward has vowed to bring medals to Liberia when her team leaves for Morrocco.
