GoL with Support from World Bank Launches US$10 Million Youth Empowerment Project

The Government of Liberia through the Ministry of Youth and Sports has embarked on a youth rising project called REALISE, an acronym for ‘Recovery of Economy Activities for Liberian and Informal Sector’.

Making the announcement on state radio on Monday, May 23, the Minister of Information, Zoegar Wilson Said the project is intended to increase income-earning opportunities for vulnerable Liberians in the informal sector.

Minister Wilson added that the project is a US$10 million project that is initiated by the Government of Liberia with funding from the World Bank. He said the project was launched in response to the crippling impact of COVID-19.

Speaking further, the Minister mentioned that the project is divided into two components and it is expected to benefit 19,000 people from Monrovia and its environs; adding that the project will be implemented over the course of three years with US$5 million for students and the other US$5 million for loan.

Meanwhile, Minister Wilson revealed the recruitment of people began on Monday, May 23, and will end on June 25, next month; nothing that the selection will be done based on merit and not a “who knows you business.”
