LNP Confiscates Huge Consignment of Arms, Made Several Arrests

The Liberian National Police (LNP) has confiscated a huge consignment of illegal arms and ammunition stored in a container at the Freeport of Monrovia.

The four hundred eighty illegal weapons confiscated were allegedly brought by an individual identified as Boy Baker.

Addressing the media on Thursday evening, LNP Inspector General, Patrick Sudue said they are doing everything in their power to ensure that every citizen is protected; and that those involved will be brought to face justice. The weapons were discovered late Wednesday evening, January 4, 2023, following a tip-off about its shipment.

“We had the intelligence so we went to the Freeport and confiscated the container, opened the container- the first few boxes that were searched, we saw some heavy weapons, we were talking about military weapons. As we speak the container is sealed up, we are going to search the entire container” IG Sudue said.

Some of the rifles discovered are mounted with long-range lensed glasses including M203 launcher gadgets, American-made M16, and AK47 among others.

While the shipment is linked to a Liberian based in America only identified as Benjamin, the LNP said it has commenced intense security investigation across the country while working with the US government to ensure that the perpetrator is prosecuted in the U.S.

The LNP also disclosed that a lady identified as Braba Debah residing on Old Road who is said to be in contact with the shipper of the illegal weapons has been arrested and is now in Police custody.

“And this woman in question, based on our investigation is in contact with the individual who sent these illegal weapons to the country, and we managed to apprehend her along with one Melina Palm.” IG Sudue said.

“And from our investigation also, we were led to the Brewervillle community precisely to the guy who is shipping these weapons home and was also able to discover more weapons during our search,” IG Sudue intimated.

IG Sudue at the same time also called on the general public not to panic about the situation as the LNP has put the matter under total control. He lauded the U.S. government and other security apparatus for the level of cooperation during the process.
