Lofa County Hits Third County Meet Semifinals in Four Years

The 2021 National County Meet Winners Lofa County qualified for 2022/2023 National County Sports Meet Semifinals on Saturday evening following their dramatic 3-2 win over Grand Bassa County at the SKD.

The Wologissu Boys are enjoying one of the best County Meet runs in the history of the National County Sports meet.

LOFA COUNTY ROAD TO THE SEMIFINALS

Lofa County begins the 2022/2023 County Meet journey with a dramatic 2-1 victory over defending champions Nimba County at the Voinjama Sports Stadium on December 18, 2022.

On Wednesday, December 21, 2022, Lofa County collected a 2-0 victory over the underrated River Gee County to grab her space in the quarterfinals of the competition.

During the final matches in the group stage on December 24, 2022, the 2021 County sports meet winners recorded their biggest win since 2021 when they defeated Bomi County 3-0 to finish as Group C winners.

Quarterfinals

Following their historical group stage campaign, the Wologissi Boys got their quarterfinals invitation with a tough encounter against Host Grand Bassa County.

James Tarpeh opened the scoring for Lofa County in eight minutes to give Lofa County an earlier-minute lead.

With just a minute to the first-half break
Augustine Dayougar got the equalizer for Grand Bassa to level up the score.

Bea Mountain frontman Prince Kollie put Grand Bassa ahead when he sent in a left-footed strike beating goalkeeper Vinah Smith and giving Grand Bassa a 2-1 lead in the first half.

Lofa County got the equalizer in the eighty-seven minutes through their number eight player Lawrence Kumeh to send the match into extra time.

With just four minutes of play in the extra time, Lofa County star player James Tappeh scored to give the Wologissi Boys a deserving 3-2 win.

Semifinals

Lofa County will welcome Bong County in the semifinals on Wednesday afternoon at the SKD Sports Complex.
