MDR Expels Three Executive Members for ‘Supporting’ Weah’s Re-election Bid – Latest Liberian News

MONROVIA – The National Executive Committee of the Movement for Democracy and Reconstruction (MDR) has expelled three of its executive committee members for violating the constitution of the party.
Addressing a press conference at the party’s headquarters in Congo Town on Tuesday, the acting Secretary General of the party Jonathan S. Jackson said the decision came after it was established that Article 14(a) of the MDR’s Constitution was violated by the three executive committee members.
Jackson named Representative Gonpu Kargon of Nimba County District Four, Wilfred Nehwon Bangura, Deputy Minister of Commerce and National Vice Chairman for Governmental Affairs of the MDR and Mr. Melvin L. Yealu, Secretary General of the party.
Their expulsion, he said, was in line of the party’s constitution.
Quoting Article 14 (a) of the MDR Constitution, he said: “No registered member of this party shall owe loyalty to another party or cause another member to pledge allegiance to another party.
If any member of this party is found in supporting any party in any form or causes another partisan to pledge support to another party shall constitute a violation and punishable as may be required by law.”
He added: “Following a series of meetings and background investigations over the time, the national executive committee of MDR unanimously voted in favor of the expulsion of Partisan Bangura, partisan Yealu and Partisn Kargon as members of MDR.”
Jackson explained that Representative Kargon was caught canvasing for the ruling CDC and the re-election bid of President George Weah, something the MDR believes is against the interest of the party.
He furthered that on February 4 of this year, partisans Bangura and Yealu were seen wearing the ruling Coalition for Democratic Change paraphernalia as supporters of President Weah who have gathered to endorse his re-election.
“I am saying this to you that partisans Banguara, Yealu and Kargon’s actions violated the constitution of the Movement for Democracy Reconstruction.
