Ministry of Information Head Raises Concerns Over Employee Welfare and Media Access

Former Presidential Press secretary under former president Ellen Sirleaf Johnson's regime and now Minister of Information designate Jerolinmek Piah has disclosed that employees at the entity have been demoralized while no deputy or assistant  Minister had an assigned vehicle under the Weah Taylor administration, something which he believes was not in the interest of the citizens working at MICAT.

Speaking in the chamber of the Liberian senate on Monday, February 26, 2024, the Ministry of Information, Culture Affairs, and Tourism Boss frowned on the action of the government of Liberia to only assigned a vehicle to the Minister of the Ministry noting further that some employees are paid as low as 40USD.

According to Piah, the 40USD can't improve the living conditions of ordinary citizens at the Ministry with the current hard caused of living across the country.

The MICAT Boss designate revealed that the Ministry employment stands at approximately Four Hundred persons, something which he said has posed serious embarrassment in the smooth operations of the Ministry.

In finding a lasting solution to happenings at the government mouthpiece, Piah has stressed the need for a personal pay role adult that aims at establishing the actual number of employees.

Commenting on the situation at the Liberia Broadcasting System, the veteran communicator has at the same time back called for the Director General of the entity to decide whether or not he or she will provide an enabling environment that will see the platform for every state actor with emphasis on the opposition politician.

According to him, the act creating the LBS doesn't give the right to the Director General of the institution to choose who to sit on the platform to express his or her view on major developments in the Country.

“I 100% agree that ELBC be a state broadcaster and I support the fact that every voice should be heard on the platform and the only thing is to hold people responsible for statements made that have the propensity to create instability in the country,”Piah said.

Meanwhile, Jerolinmek Piah is calling on the 55th national legislators to repeal the military law of former President Samuel Doe to open it to every actor.

According to Piah, it is unfortunate for a democratic government to be working with the military decree.
