NEC Announces Dates for 2023 Elections

Ahead of the 2023 General Elections, the National Elections Commission (NEC) has announced dates for the 2022-2023 Biometric Voter Registration in Monrovia.

The exercise which begins December 15, 2022 and ends March 17, 2023 will be done in three phases on a regional basis.

Addressing a press conference Wednesday in Monrovia, NEC Chairperson Davidetta Brown Lassanah noted that during the Voter registration exercise, portable tablets with scanners will be used.

According to her, the data entry process which will be performed by the use of a customized software, will capture applicant’s particulars including facial image.

Commenting on the three phases for the BVR, Madam Lassanah said region one (Phase one) will focus on Montserrado, Bomi, Gbarpolu and Grand Cape Mount Counties while region two will focus on Bong, Grand Bassa, Lofa and Margibi Counties.

However, region three will highlight Grand Gedeh, Grand Kru, Maryland, Nimba, River Gee, Rivercess and Sinoe Counties.

The NEC boss noted that during the exercise, all registration teams will be deployed in a region for the period of three weeks before moving on to the next region.

Meanwhile, Madam Davidetta Brown Lassanah said the Government of Liberia has approved $20 million in the National Budget for the Commission.

She noted that the Ministry of Finance and Development Planning has disbursed the amount of US$6 million to the Commission.
