“No Drugs In Confiscated Boxes” – Says Liberia Revenue Agency In RIA Investigation

ROBERTSFIELD, Margibi – The Liberia Revenue Authority says the boxes seized at the Roberts International Airport do not contain drugs as being speculated.

The Assistant Commissioner of Customs at the Liberia Revenue Authority, Atty. Namue Koffi told Journalists that the ten boxes seized by the Armed Forces of Liberia contained a hundred packs of moringa leaves contrary to the alleged Drugs reported on social media.

On Thursday, Samuel Freeman, the Security Manager at Roberts International Airport (RIA) was placed under investigation for his alleged involvement in an attempt to transport several boxes suspected of containing contraband directly from the airport tarmac, using an unauthorized gate.

The management at the Roberts International Airport (RIA) confirmed the interception of the boxes by officers from the AFL stationed at the airport.

The intercepted boxes were reportedly being transported in a minibus, with Mr. Freeman escorting them and claiming that the consignment belonged to President George Weah’s Chief of Protocol, Ms. Nora Finda Bundo. However, Ms. Bundo vehemently denied any knowledge of the boxes when contacted by airport management.

The joint security had set Monday to open the boxes in the presence of the media.

However, a K-News reporter on the scene said the media was excluded from the process. While journalists had anticipated being present for the opening of the boxes, they were asked out.

Atty. Koffi added that the hundred packs of Moringa will be sent to the laboratory in line with the Liberia Drug Enforcement Agency (LDEA) for proper testing.

Also speaking, the Security Director of Roberts International Airport, Samuel S. Freeman denied having any link to the boxes.

Freeman said reports that he was arrested by the AFL while attempting to smuggle the boxes out of the airport’s tarmac were false and misleading.

He said the reports were intended to destroy high high-earned character he has built over the years.

When asked about his working relationship with Martin Haynes, the Managing Director of the Airport, Freeman revealed they have a rocky working relationship.
