President Weah Embarks on Three-day State Visit to Israel

Monrovia, Liberia – President George Manneh Weah is wrapping up his three-day working visit to Israel. 

A statement issued by the Executive Mansion states that President Weah, who departed on Friday, July 1, is expected to arrive in Jerusalem today, Monday, July 1.

During his working visit, President Weah will meet and hold bilateral discussions with the President of the State of Israel, Mr. Isaac Herzog, and the Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, the release said.

The President is being accompanied by the Ministers of Foreign Affairs, Hon. Dee-Maxwell Saah Kemayah; Information Cultural Affairs and Tourism, Julius Ledgerhood Rennie; Commerce and Industry, Mawine Diggs; National Defense, Maj. Gen. (Rtd) Daniel Ziankahn, State Without Portfolio, Trokon Kpui, and Maritime Commissioner Lenn Eugene Nagbe. The Liberian Leader is also accompanied by Honorable J. Fonati Koffa, Deputy Speaker of the Legislature and Senator Edwin Melvin Snowe. 

In his absence, the Minister of State for Presidential Affairs, G. Wesseh Blamoh, will act as Chair of the Cabinet in consultation with the Vice President and via telephone conversation with the President.

Meanwhile, this is President Weah’s first trip to Israel since the Prime Minister was reelected in November 2022 after spending a brief 12-months in opposition.

Although the Executive Mansion did not make any specific reference to what Liberia stands to benefit from the President’s trip, observers say, the President’s travel could be seen as part of his last-minute drive for foreign support to boost his administration’s development drive as he is set to convince majority of Liberian voters to give him a another six-year mandate.
