Rayan Cherki put the citizens ahead in the 16th minute, but Arsenal responded through Kai Havertz in the 18th minute to level the scoreline 1-1, taking both teams to the break.

City returned with renewed energy, as striker Erling Haaland got a tactical finish in the penalty area in the 65th minute that gave Pep Guardiola's side the crucial win.

Manchester City now holds 67 points in the second place, sitting just 3 points behind leaders Arsenal who have 70 points.

Pep Guadidola's side holds a game in hand. A win in their outstanding match against Burnley will level them with Arsenal on points.

It is roughly 5 games remaining to end the 2025/2026 English Premier League (EPL) season.

Sports analysts say the title race will be decided in the last rounds of league matches.

Arsenal is in search ofitsr first Premier League title in 22 years. The club last won the title in the 2003/2004 season.

For Manchester City, she is in search of the title after losing it last season to Liverpool.

Manchester City has notably overtaken Arsenal to win the Premier League title in recent seasons, most prominently in 2022–23 and 2023–24.

During those seasons, Arsenal led for significant periods before being caught and overtaken in the title race.

With City pushing from the back again this season, many are watchful to see how it all ends.

Germany: The title race for the German Bundesliga this season has come to an end after Bayern Munich collected a much-needed win against Stuttgart on Sunday to secure the championship.

Bayern Munich came from 1-0 down to beat Stuttgart 4-2 at the Allianz Arena, and clinched the Bundesliga title for a historic 35th time.

The Bavarians, who have lost just once all season, needed only a point to win the crown after the nearest challengers Borussia Dortmund suffered a defeat at Hoffenheim on Saturday night.

But Stuttgart, chasing a place in next season's Champions League, threatened to spoil the party when Chris Fuhrich sent home a superb strike in the 21st minute.

But, Bayern Munich reconsolidated and found the back of the net four times before the 53rd minute. Thanks to goals from Raphael Guerreiro, Nicolas Jackson, Alphonso Davies, and Harry Kane, which secured the club a crucial 3 points.

The Bavarians sealed the championship despite holding four games in hand.

The championship success keeps Bayern's hopes of winning the treble alive, with semi-finals against Bayer Leverkusen in DFB‑Pokal and Paris St-Germain in the Champions League to come later this month.

Monrovia, Liberia: Liberian First Division side Borough FC has appointed Deputy Coach Theophilus Befford as Acting Manager of the club following the sudden resignation of Head Coach Reo Nyanti.

Coach Reo Nyanti resigned his post with immediate effect on Thursday amidst growing concerns about the club's poor run this season.

Nyanti was appointed as Head Coach in September 2025, on a three-year deal but managed less than 8 months in charge with the New Kru Town boys.

Under Nyanti's watch, the club was only able to secure four wins from 21 league games so far in the 2025/2025 LFA First Division season.

His resignation follows what Borough FC is now experiencing as one of its worst seasons in the Liberia Football Association (LFA) First Division League.

In a formal communication to the club, Coach Reo Nyanti stated: “It has been an honor to have served in the position of head coach of such a great organization. Unfortunately, I will be unable to continue my role.”

However, Borough FC has acknowledged Nyanti's departure with an appreciation for his services, and moved to appoint Theophilus Befford, to act in the role for the remainder of the season.

The club is currently battling relegation, sitting on 21 points in the bottom zone of the league table.

Befford will now take on a task to save the club from relegation. Borough FC will need to collect significant points from their last five league matches in order to escape relegation.

His first major test will come on April 25th when Borough FC faces off against in-formed LPRC Oilers.

Sports analysts say this match, like every other remaining one, is crucial to deciding Borough FC's fate in the top-tier league.

Lome, Togo: Liberia's Under 18 and 20 National Handball Teams have departed Togo for Monrovia after a disappointing run in the just-ended International Handball Federation (IHF) Men's Africa Zone 3 qualifiers that led them to finish in the bottom of their group.

The young Lone Star faced double defeats in their placement matches in the hand of host nation Togo. The U-18 team suffered a heavy defeat by 25–05, while the U-20 side also fell short, losing 30–12 to Togo.

Liberia Handball Teams' losses came after missing their opening matches of the competition due to late arrival—following delays at the Ghana–Togo border.

According to reports, the teams were left stranded following passports check at the Aflao border between Ghana and Togo.

A journalist traveling with the team revealed that the delegation was stuck for more than nine hours upon crossing into the Togolese territory, before later being released after the country's sports authority intervened.

Officials of the Liberia National Handball Federation said the situation caused serious trauma for the players and may have contributed to their poor performance in the qualifiers.

The situation also led to Liberia's forfeiture of her opening matches which ruled out her qualification chances. The teams were left with only an option for placement matches, to either improve their raking, but flopped in the group.

The 2026 International Handball Federation (IFH) Men's Africa Zone 3 qualifiers concluded over the week. It featured eight West African Zone 3 member countries including Liberia, Benin, Burkina Faso, Ghana, Côte d'Ivoire, Niger, Nigeria, and host nation Togo.

Meanwhile, Nigeria emerged victorious in both categories of the qualifiers. The Super Eagles' U-18 team secured a commanding 32–18 victory over Ivory Coast, while the U-20 side triumphed over Benin with a 39–29 scoreline, sealing a clean sweep for the West African giants.

By virtue of their victories, both Nigerian teams have advanced for the Africa Handball Nations Cup scheduled for later this year.

<media:keywords>Court Clears Kouh to Contest LFA Election, But...</media:keywords>

Monrovia, Liberia: The Civil Law Court of Liberia has granted Fassell Football Club President Cassell A. Kouh the constitutional right to contest the Liberia Football Association's (LFA) upcoming election, but its refusal to rule out certain eligibility clauses in the LFA Statutes has left Kouh's qualification fate for the electoral process in doubt.

Legal experts argue that although Kouh is granted the constitutional right, the court has declared it has no jurisdiction to decide on Articles 45.4 and 58.1 of the LFA Statutes, which state that "The President, Vice President, and Executive Committee Members shall not have been found guilty of a criminal offence."

These statutes, legal experts say could hunt Presidential Aspirant Cassell A. Kouh if included in the election guidelines.

Kouh was convicted for investment fraud in 2017 in the United States. His eligibility to contest has been strongly challenged under the LFA 2018 approved Statutes.

The Civil Law Court on Thursday, April 9, lifted the permanent injunction placed on the LFA elections and ordered petitioner Cassell A. Kouh to submit to the electoral process.

Assigned Judge Peter Gbeneweleh declared: "This Court hereby declares the rights of Petitioner Cassell Anthony Kouh to contest the LFA upcoming elections, and he should avail himself to the electoral process".

"Wherefore and in view of the foregoing, this Court hereby declines jurisdiction over the constitutionality of the LFA 2018 approved statutes, same being cognizable before the Supreme Court of Liberia".

Following the ruling, LFA Legal Representative Cllr. Michael Jeke said Kouh's fate to contest remains unresolved.

He noted that Cassell A. Kouh could apply, but the statutes that could potentially bar him are still in place. Cllr. Jeke stated that if the LFA enforces these statutes, the matter will then take a new twist, and could only be decided by the Supreme Court.

The argument by Kouh's legal team to remove the 'criminal record clauses' from the LFA Statutes is pending determination before the Supreme Court.

LFA Legal Representative Jeke pointed out: "It is clear that the issues in the statutes are constitutional and are currently before the Supreme Court. So, the Civil Law Court cannot rule on them. His point is that he wants the court to remove that position from the guidelines, but the judge said he cannot do that because it is not within his purview."

"Every electoral process has rules and regulations. For example, if he is denied on that basis, he cannot come back here; only the Supreme Court can determine whether his constitutional rights were violated."

As the LFA prepares to proceed with its electoral process scheduled for April 18, 2026, many football stakeholders are now wondering whether Kouh's constitutional rights will align with the election guidelines under the LFA Statutes that remain untouched.

This is happening at a time when FIFA has warned Liberia of sanctions for perceived third-party or Civil Court interference in its football body elections dispute.

Monrovia, Liberia: The Club Licensing Appeal Board of the Liberia Football Association (LFA) has upheld the football governing body's decision to relegate Jubilee Football Club to the Third Division League.

The Club Licensing Appeal Board on Tuesday, April 7, 2026, announced the dismissal of an appeal filed by Jubilee FC seeking to overturn the relegation imposed on it by the football body.

Backdrop of the Relegation

In April 2025, the Liberia Football Association relegated Jubilee FC to the Third Division despite the club's promotion from the Second to the First Division League, citing breach of league rules.

According to the LFA, the club submitted a fraudulent business registration document during the registration process for the 2024/2025 season. This, the LFA said, was discovered following a verification process.

The Football House stated that the club was initially fined $10,000 but failed to comply, which led to a further penalty of relegation.

Jubilee FC's Legal Fight Against the Relegation

Jubilee FC strongly objected to the decision, filing an initial appeal with the LFA Appeal Board. The club argued that its relegation was unjust and lacked due process.

However, the appeal did not succeed after a stalemate at the Appeal Board level, which by default upheld the LFA’s stance.

The club then sought further review from the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS), pushing to overturn the LFA's decision.

After a lengthy investigation, CAS ruled that the LFA temporarily reinstated Jubilee FC to the First Division. The Arbitration body referred the case to the LFA Club Licensing Appeal Board to allow due process and make a final determination.

Outcome of the Case by the LFA Club Licensing Appeal Board

After reviewing the case for some months, the LFA Appeal Board found that Jubilee FC indeed submitted falsified business registration document during the club licensing process.

The Board stated that the club was afforded due process, initially, through the time frame set for a fine for the reported violation.

The Appeal Board declared that the relegation imposed on Jubilee was a proportionate and necessary measure to maintain the integrity of Liberian football.

The statement issued on Tuesday read: "The Liberia Football Association (LFA) Club Licensing Appeal Board has dismissed the appeal filed by Jubilee FC, confirming the club's relegation to the 3rd division."

"This decision follows a directive from the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS), which had suspended the relegation pending final review. After examining the case, the Appeal Board found that Jubilee FC submitted falsified Business Registration documents during the licensing process."

"The Board concluded that the club was afforded due process and that relegation is a proportionate measure to protect the integrity of Liberian football."

According to the Liberia Football Association, the ruling marks the final step in the adjudication process, in line with CAS requirements.

This comes as a major blow for Jubilee FC, which was initially reinstated in the First Division. With this decision, the club will now descend to the third tier and will need to stand a tough test of time in order to find its way back to the top-flight league.

Monrovia, Liberia: The Civil Law Court of Montserrado County has summoned FC Fassell President Cassell A. Kouh to appear under Contempt of Court this Monday, April 6, to justify a leaked audio linking him to seeking external influence over the court's recent decision to place an injunction on the Liberia Football Association's election.

The leaked audio circulating on social media and in the possession of K-News Sports revealed a voice believed to be Kouh’s, in a telephone conversation indicating that the injunction on the FA election was made successful after seeking interference from the Vice President of Liberia, Jeremiah Koung.

The source of the recording remains anonymous. The recording alleges Kouh of disclosing that Presiding Judge Peter Gbeneweleh’s decision was influenced after placing a phone call to the Vice President, who then allegedly mandated the injunction.

The recording also claims Judge Gbeneweleh’s decision to issue a permanent injunction on the LFA’s April 18 Elective elective Congress was not finalized until after the external call was made.

“That identical injunction, the vice president himself told the people to go ahead with it,” the voice believed to be Cassell A. Kouh states in the recording.

Although Kouh, the president of FC Fassell and a presidential hopeful in the LFA election, has denied these claims, the leaked audio has raised serious questions about the court’s recent decision.

The Civil Law Court, in a writ dated April 2, 2026, and signed by Chief Clerk Victor Gailor, has ordered Kouh to show cause why he should not be held in contempt of court regarding the circulating audio on the social media.

The court believes the said audio if not justified could undermine the integrity of the judicial process. Court officials have warned that such actions, if proven, constitute a serious offense that could lead to imprisonment.

"You are commanded to summon the above-named Defendant, (Mr. Cassell Anthony Kouh), to appear before this Court on Monday, April 9, 2026, at 3:30PM to show cause, if any, why he should not be held in contempt of court for the social media recording in circulation", the writ signed Chief Clerk Victor Gailor mentioned.

Such a controversial audio surfaces at a time when FIFA has threatened sanctions against Liberia if there is any third-party interference in the local Football Association election dispute.

The LFA election dispute involves candidate eligibility rules. Presidential hopeful Cassell A. Kouh has challenged the LFA, claiming that the election guidelines violate his rights as a citizen.

Kouh’s eligibility is heavily contested under Article 58.1 of the LFA Statutes, which states that "The President, Vice Presidents, and Executive Committee members shall not have been found guilty of criminal offence."

Kouh argues that, despite a conviction for investment fraud in the United States, he served the penalty, and his rights should be restored and protected under Liberian law to participate in the elections.

The legal battle has resulted in an injunction on the FA elections petitioned by Kouh, which has sparked controversy following the leak of the audio alleging external influence on the process.

Monrovia, Liberia: The Federation of International Football Association (FIFA) has given Liberia a seven-day ultimatum to sort out the impasse surrounding its Football body election or risk serious consequences including ban.

The World Football governing body warned that the legal dispute facing the Liberia Football Association's election should be withdrawn from ordinary court and addressed through appropriate sports arbitration channels.

FIFA's communication directed to the Liberia Football Association dated April 2, 2026, comes after the Civil Law Court of Liberia issued a permanent injunction on the pending elections of the FA.

This followed a petition filed by an embattled presidential aspirant in LFA pending elections, Cassell A. Kouh. Kouh has taken the LFA to civil court on several counts, including alleged violations of his rights to contest the election.

The contention stemmed from his conviction in the U.S. for a criminal offence involving an investment fraud. The LFA on said ground has challenged Kouh's eligibility in line with Article 58. 1 of its statutes.

Article 58. 1 of the LFA statutes states: "The President, Vice Presidents, and Executive Committee members shall not have been found guilty of criminal offence."

Cassell A. Kouh's legal team is seeking further interpretation of the statutes at the civil court, arguing that it runs contrary to the Liberian constitution, the superior law in the country.

With a permanent injunction issued by the court on all activities of the pending LFA April 18, 2026 Elective Congress until a final judgement is made, FIFA has described the move as a third-party interference and said it is prohibited under its global football statutes.

The World Football governing body cites Article 14 part 1 (0) and Article 19 part 1 of its Statutes, stating that all members association including the LFA are required to manage their affairs independently, without undue influence from third parties.

However, FIFA has mandated the Liberia Football Association to provide a detailed report on the situation regarding means to find a resolution in the next 7 seven days.

The global football body in the communication signed by its Chief Member Association Officer, Elkhan Mammadov, warned that failure to resolve the dispute appropriately per the ultimatum, could result in suspension of Liberia's membership.

Other penalties listed by FIFA include sanctions from participating in international competitions, pause of financial support, and prohibition of other member associations from maintaining sporting contact with the LFA.

"In this regard, we kindly request that you provide us, no later than 9 April 2026, with a detailed update on the measures taken to address the situation and to ensure compliance with the above-mentioned obligations."

"Should the situation remain unresolved within the aforementioned deadline, we will be compelled to submit this matter to the competent FIFA bodies, for consideration and decision, which could lead to the suspension of the LFA in accordance with the FIFA Statutes", the communication stated.

Meanwhile, FIFA has urged all stakeholders and aggrieved parties in the LFA pending elections to adhere to its statues and the laws governing the local football house to maintain the integrity of the sport.

"We hereby formally request that the LFA, and all relevant stakeholders take immediate and concrete steps to ensure full compliance with the FIFA Statutes and the LFA Statutes to ensure that the LFA is able to manage its affairs independently and without undue influence from third parties".

"Taking all necessary measures to ensure that football-related disputes are handled exclusively within the framework of the dispute resolution mechanisms provided for under the applicable football regulations. Refraining from any further actions that may result in or reinforce the involvement of ordinary courts in matters relating to the internal governance and electoral process of the LFA", the World Football body highlighted.

Johnsonville, Liberia: Residents of Kpanwen Community in Lower Johnsonville, Montserrado County, are demanding the immediate replacement of a falling tension-wire pole belonging to the Liberia Electricity Corporation (LEC) in their area.

Residents have alarmed fear over their safety in relation to the falling LEC tension pole, saying its condition poses a security threat to the environment.

Speaking to K-News, one of the residents, Nelson Yanrue, a community bloc leader, said they have notified the Liberia Electricity Corporation about the situation on several occasions, but to no avail.

He stated that the pole experienced a broken mark from the bottom in early 2025. Yanrue noted that the hanging pole had left power lines nearly leveled with the roofs of some houses in the area.

He stressed that Kpanwen Community holds huge inhabitants and that the falling pole along a feeder road endangers commuters as well as nearby homes.

Citizens want the Liberia Electricity Corporation to swiftly intervene before the potential security threat degenerates into casualties.

"The community leadership has been walking up after issue at the LEC head office, for them to come and make some changes to the poles in our area that are damaged. They have come and promise us, but they have not done anything about it".

"Not only what you see here today, if you enter Bloc E, there are also other poles that are hanging almost to the ground. These things are dangerous for our people, these poles can fall at any time and could cause casualties".

"We want the government through the LEC to swiftly address our plights. They should not wait for something else to happen they can come over", Nelson Yanrue asserted.

The Kpanwen Community residents believe the delay of the LEC to replace the pole underscores lapses in its response mechanism to address issues related to customer services.

They maintained that the Corporation has only exerted energy on power theft, paying less attention to other issues, including those that threaten costumers safety.

However, citizens have expressed their intent to stage a protest should the Liberia Electricity Corporation fail to do the needful in the soonest possible time.

"This is a disservice. If the relevant authority will not see the need to come to our aid, we have no option, but to stage a protest", they intoned.

Paris, France: Despite being stripped of the Africa Cup of Nations (AFON) title, Senegal on Saturday paraded the prestigious trophy at the Stade de France before the kickoff of their friendly encounter against Peru.

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) revoked Senegal's 2025 AFCON championship title earlier this month and awarded it to Morocco.

This followed a ruling by the CAF Appeal Board on the brief walkout action by the Senegalese in the AFCON final against Morocco which they won 1-0.

The ruling was based on complaints filed by Morocco regarding Senegal's conduct in the final. CAF said Senegal's action breached Article 84 of its Regulations governing the Africa Cup of Nations.

As such, the football governing body declared that Senegal thereby forfeited the match by 3-0 and that Morocco is the new champion.

However, Senegal has opposed CAF's decision, with the latest parade of the trophy in their possession coming as a total defiance to relinquish the crown.

They beat Peru 2-0 in the friendly in Paris, France, which was their first encounter since the 2025 AFCON final.

Before the match against Peru, captain Kalidou Koulibaly and his teammates entered the pitch with the AFCON trophy for a lap of honour, before Koulibaly and goalkeeper Edouard Mendy went up to the stadium's presidential box to place the trophy there.

The Senegalese also played in a kit with two stars above their badge to signify having won two AFCON titles - the disputed 2025 tournament and their previous 2021 title.

CAF has urged Senegal to turn over the title but to no avail.

In contention to retain the title, Senegal has appealed the CAF decision to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS). The nation is calling for a reconsideration of the football governing body's move against it.

CAS has acknowledged Senegal's appeal and is expected to rule on the matter which will determine the Senegalese fate for the championship.

Gbanga, Bong County: The Ministry of Commerce and Industry has ordered the immediate shutdown of Banjah Frozen Food Annex #17 in Gbanga, Bong County, after discovering unwholesome goods in its cold storage facility.

The inspection was conducted by the Ministry's inspectorate department in the county.

Making the disclosure to the media on Saturday, March 28, 2026, the Senior Commerce Inspector in Bong County, David Mentuah, said the team discovered serveral cartons of frozen fish in the company's Annex #17 cold storage to be "contaminated".

He stated that following this discovery, an immediate shutdown has been ordered to ensure the company faces penalties, including fines, before resuming operations.

Mentuah noted that Banjah Frozen Food Company has been cited to the Ministry of Commerce and Development Planning in Monrovia, where further actions against it will be taken.

Though the quantity of unwholesome goods discovered remains unknown, inspector Mentuah said the Ministry is working on the timely disposal of the consignment.

"What led to this exercise is, because of the goods that was inside here, was unwholesome. So it was not consumable. Predicated on that, we locked this place. This is why today we are getting ready to dump these goods," he explained.

However, Inspector David Mentuah has sent a strong caveat to businesses operating in and around Bong County, stating that the local inspectorate team will not hesitate to shut down any business caught selling contaminated or expired products.

He stressed that contaminated goods are dangerous to consumers' health and that the Bong Commerce Inspectorate team will intensify regulation efforts to ensure full compliance across the county.

"This will go to all businesses, is not only cold rooms alone. Sooner or later, we will be commencing our second-quarter inspection. Today we are dumping from here, when we discover other stores, they will further suit," he declared

Monrovia, Liberia: The Liberia Football Association (LFA) scheduled April 18, 2026 Elective Congress has faced another setback following a permanent injunction placed on the body's electoral process by the Civil Law Court amidst an ongoing legal battle over the FA candidate eligibility rules.

The injunction issued on Tuesday, March 24, was requested by embattled presidential aspirant Cassell A. Kouh through his legal team. This comes barely a week when the court issued and lifted a temporary injunction on the very election activities.

Kouh's legal team petitioned the court to halt all activities of the FA electoral process until a ruling is made to determine his (Cassell A. Kouh) fate to contest.

Following arguments between the legal team representing Cassell A. Kouh and the legal representatives of the LFA, presiding Judge Peter Gbeneweleh moved to issue an injunction on the Football House pending April 18 elections.

The plaintiff, Kouh's legal camp, now argues that the set April 18 election may not proceed as scheduled due to the timing of the injunction, which comes less than 30 days before the elections.

Attorney Joseph Howe, a member of Kouh's team, emphasized that there could be a new date for the elections to fit a 30-day notice period for registration, stating that no law in the bailiwick of the country supersedes the Liberian constitution.

"The law says the date for the election should be 30 days after the deadline for registration. So, the April 18 date is not possible. The judge agreed with us. We tell the Court that before you determine the substantive matter, let the election process stop," Howe stated.

Kouh's eligibility to contention stemmed from his conviction for investment fraud in the United States in 2017.

This is challenged by the Football House under Article 58.1 of its Statutes, which states that "The President, Vice Presidents, and Executive Committee members shall not have been found guilty of criminal offence."

Kouh has accused the election committee of the LFA of implementing guidelines he believes are inconsistent with the statutes of the football body, claiming they violate his rights.

He alleged that the election guidelines are biased regarding the eligibility criteria to prevent him from running. He has since taken the LFA to civil court to seek further interpretation of the statutes.

Kouh's legal team maintains that his criminal record should not bar him from contesting. They argue that Article 58.1 of the LFA Statutes contravenes Article 2 and Article 21(j) of the Liberian Constitution.

Article 2 of the Liberian Constitution establishes it as the supreme and fundamental law of the country, binding all authorities and individuals.

Article 21(j) mandates the automatic restoration of civil rights and liberties to anyone convicted of a crime after serving their sentence, satisfying penalties, or receiving a presidential pardon.

The plaintiff's side mentioned that Kouh has served his penalty for the crime committed in the U.S., and he should be protected under the Liberian law to contest the LFA elections.

Meanwhile, the Liberia Football Association's defense lawyers contend that football matters are addressed through the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) and not a civil courtroom, calling for the dismissal of Kouh's case.

The defense team also noted that Cassell A. Kouh, as a former Vice President, helped shape Article 58.1 of the LFA statutes, which bans candidates with criminal records from contesting any elected positions.

With an injunction in place on the elections, the court is expected to hear the eligibility case involving Kouh and the FA in the coming days. This will determine whether Kouh is eligible to run in the body's elections.

The legal battle unfolds at a time when FIFA has warned that any court interference that overturns the statutes of the local football body could risk Liberia being suspended from international competitions.

Paynesville, Liberia: With less than a month to the Liberia Football Association (LFA) Elective Congress, incumbent President Mustapha Raji is garnering huge support as 30 eligible football stakeholders signed a resolution to back his re-election for a third term.

The resolution was signed by club Presidents, Vice Presidents, Secretary Generals, officials, and Associations from across the Men's First and Second and Upper Women's Divisions as well as accredited associations of the Liberia Football Association.

The LFA Elective Congress is scheduled for April 18, 2026, in Harper, Maryland County, where stakeholders go to elect a new crop of officials, including President, Vice President and Executive Committee members.

Reading their resolution in a Press Conference on Monday, March 23, 2026, the stakeholders disclosed that their decision to support Raji for a Third Term is based on what they described as a massive development in football nationwide.

They reference the construction of mini pitches, an increase in club subvention and cash prizes for top-flight league winners and decentralization of grassroots football among others under the leadership of the incumbent President.

The statement was read by Upper Women's League side Small Town FC Vice President Ansu Dulley on behalf of the group: "Thirty delegates of said 50 voting delegates, representing a clear decisive majority, of the LFA Congress have convened to review the progress of football governance in Liberia".

"Whereas President Mustard Raji has demonstrated superior leadership since 2018, overseeing the transformation of football across all levels including the construction of state-of-the-art LFA Headquarters, decentralization of football across several counties".

"Whereas the current administration has significantly increased the financial subvention to clubs from US$3,937 Dollars to US$7,500 Dollars and prize money from national division where Women's Upper League champions now received US$25,000, Second Division now US$10,000, First Division champions now receive US$30,000".

"We thereby reaffirmed our unconditional support for Mustapha Raji's candidacy for the third term and in the upcoming April 18, 2026 Elective Congress in Harper, Maryland County".

Clubs and associations that signed the resolution include:

Paynesville FC, LISCR FC, Wein Town FC, LIFRA, Blackman Warriors, Mighty Barrolle SA, Real, Muja FC, LIFOCA, Watanga FC, LONA, Tap Tap FC, LPRC Oilers, Borough FC, Downtown FC, Gedeh FC, Gardnerville FC, Cece United FA, Freeport FC PAG FC, Earth Angels FC, ISSA FC, Discoveries FC, Margibi FC, LISMA, Falconets FC, Small Town FC, Ravia Angels FC, Bushrod Queens FC, District 17 FC, and Golden Dream FC.

Observers say the number constitutes about two-third of the eligible voters, but warned that resolution is not guaranteed until it is transformed into votes. The Football House elections recognize fifty eligible from across the Men's First and Second and Upper Women's League, as well as accredited associations. The elections are won on a simple majority basis.

Meanwhile, Incumbent President Mustapha Raji third term bid is heavily being opposed by an aspirant, Cassell Anthony Kouh. Kouh, President of First Division Club Fassell, has repeatedly vowed to unseat Raji although he is still facing contention over his eligibility to contest.

<media:keywords>George Weah Criticizes CAF Reward of AFCON Title to Morocco</media:keywords>

Monrovia, Liberia: Former African football star and one-time Ballon d'Or winner George Weah, has described the decision of the Confederation of African Football (CAF) to strip Senegal of the 2025 AFCON Championship and award it to Morocco as a "travesty" to football on the continent.

Weah stated that the decision, if not carefully reviewed, could undermine the fairness and integrity of football in Africa.

The African football icon argued that there is no sporting justification on the part of CAF to nullify a match that was completed according to the referee’s authority and the Laws of the Game.

The Liberian international George Weah cited Law 5 of the Laws of the Game of Football, which also applies to CAF regulations, and stated that the result obtained on the pitch between Senegal and Morocco should have stood as the final score.

Law 5 of the Laws of the Game (Football) establishes the referee as the ultimate authority on the field, responsible for enforcing rules, controlling the match, and making final decisions on facts connected to play.

Weah said the referee, as the authority of the match, allowed the game to proceed after Senegal's brief walkout. According to him, once the score was final, the action should have been addressed with sanctions, not a penalty of forfeiture.

"This decision has further scarred and blemished African football, undermining confidence in the fairness, consistency, and integrity of football on the continent".

"Once play is allowed to continue and the match is completed, the result obtained on the field must stand. Under the applicable rules of the Confederation of African Football (CAF), match officials have full authority during the game", he declared on Thursday, March 19, in a social media post.

Senegal defeated Morocco 1-0 in the 2025 AFCON final to lift the trophy. CAF on Tuesday, March 17, announced that Senegal has been stripped of the AFCON title and that Morocco is the new winner.

The African football governing body stated that the decision followed a thorough review into a protest filed by Morocco regarding the Senegalese conduct during the final, including their walkout action.

CAF, through its Appeal Board, in a statement said the decision to award Morocco the title was made in line with Article 84 of the Regulations of the CAF Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON). The ruling which favored Morocco rewarded them 3 goals and declared Senegal to have forfeited the match.

However, George Weah, who also rose to the highest seat in his country, Liberia, as President, maintained that "Football must be decided on the pitch, not re-decided after the final whistle".

He also openly expressed his support for Senegal as they seek to appeal CAF's decision to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS).

Monrovia, Liberia: The Director of the Ministry of Local Government, William Jallah emphasized the importance of collaborative efforts and engaging with traditional leaders through cultural dialogue to eliminate traditional practices that endanger the safety of women and girls in Liberia.

During a recent high-level meeting in Monrovia, Jallah commended development partners and civil society groups for their ongoing efforts in fighting practices like female genital mutilation (FGM), noting that the government cannot address the issue alone.

He pointed out that Liberia is a deeply cultural society, where longstanding traditions influence daily life. However, the Local Government Ministry official stressed the need to distinguish between positive cultural values and harmful practices that negatively affect women and girls.

Jallah noted that, under President Joseph Boakai's leadership, the government has already committed to ending harmful practices. He highlighted the importance of promoting alternative, positive cultural practices that safeguard the rights and well-being of girls while maintaining Liberia’s cultural identity.

According to him, community involvement, especially with traditional leaders, plays a key role in driving a change. Engaging chiefs and local stakeholders, he said, is "essential to ensuring that efforts to end harmful practices are understood, accepted, and sustained at the grassroots level."

Also speaking, during the same high-level meeting to strengthen partnerships against FGM in Liberia, UN Women country representative Comfort Lamptey called for immediate, coordinated action to eliminate the practice.

“We’re not starting this process of advocacy now. you’ve done so much that has really brought the issue of FGM to the fore,” she said.

Lamptey also thanked President Joseph Boakai for his public commitment to outlaw FGM, describing it as a bold and necessary step for national development. “This is central for Liberia’s development and all of us here want to support the president’s vision,” she emphasized.

Highlighting the urgency, she warned that the window for legislative action is limited. “If we are not able to pass the FGM law this year, by next year people’s attention spans will go elsewhere into elections,” she cautioned, stressing the need for strategic and time-bound advocacy efforts.

While emphasizing the importance of passing the law, Comfort Lamptey clarified that legislation is only the first step. “Passing the bill is just the first step. Phase two is getting people to know what the bill is. Phase three is monitoring implementation,” she explained.

She also called for unity in messaging among all stakeholders, warning against mixed signals that could weaken the campaign. “All of us have to be saying the same thing. It cannot be that one institution says something different from another,” the UN Women representative said.

Lamptey further urged advocates to expand and decentralize their outreach by involving grassroots networks and credible community voices. “Let’s decentralize the advocacy, bring on rural women’s networks and women who have been through the practice to speak out,” she added.

The UN Women country representative expressed confidence that coordinated action, clear messaging, and sustained political will could enable Liberia to make meaningful progress in ending FGM and safeguarding the rights of women and girls.

Monrovia, Liberia: The National Coalition Against Harmful Practices (NACAHP) has joined ranks with other advocacy groups calling for the swift passage of an act seeking to ban harmful traditional practices, including Female Genital Mutilation (FGM) in Liberia.

It can be recalled that in October 2025, President Joseph Boakai submitted a bill to the House of Representatives titled: "An Act to Ban Harmful Cultural Practices in Liberia."

The proposed bill aims to criminalize FGM and child marriage, moving beyond previous temporary suspensions (moratoriums) to a permanent national law.

The National Coalition Against Harmful Practices, in a recent engagement with lawmakers, emphasized that the need to pass such a bill is no longer a cultural debate, but a matter of life, dignity, and human rights protection.

The advocacy group said a baseline survey conducted under the banner “Born Perfect Grand Finale: From Community Dialogue to National Action,” revealed that many citizens now see FGM as harmful and outdated.

NACAHP quoted a women’s advocate as saying: “Our girls are not born to suffer in silence". The organization furthered that data confirms women in rural areas have said the practice endangers health and violates basic rights.

The National Coalition Against Harmful Practices noted that the baseline survey report came after a five-county community consultation with rural women, traditional authorities, and civil society organizations.

Delivering the official position of the Joint Legislative Committee, Bong County District #6 Representative, Moima Briggs-Mensah expressed support for the proposed bill.

She said the Women and Girls Protection Act is designed to protect lives, not attack culture.

“We are not here to shame traditions; we are here to save girls,” she said. “This law must be firm in protecting rights, but respectful in how it engages our communities.”

She stressed that real change requires culturally sensitive messaging, grassroots involvement, and strong support systems such as education, healthcare, and alternative livelihoods.

“A law without support will fail, but a law backed by communities will transform the nation,” Briggs-Mensah warned.

Some lawmakers, however, called for the consultations to go beyond five counties. “How can we pass a national law without hearing from all fifteen counties?” one legislator asked, pushing for deeper public education and nationwide dialogue before final passage.

As the debate to eliminate FGM intensifies, the Legislature is at the center stage of what gender advocates say their decision would shape the future of Liberia’s women and girls.

Monrovia, Liberia: Deodata Mukazayire, Program Technical Specialist on Ending Violence Against Women (EVAW) at UN Women, has emphasized the need to criminalize Female Genital Mutilation (FGM) as a crucial step toward ending the practice in Liberia.

Madam Mukazayire stated that Liberia must move beyond the traditional temporary bans on FGM. During a recent high-level stakeholder dialogue in Monrovia, the UN Program Specialist called for coordinated efforts and partnerships to eliminate FGM.

She stressed that government agencies, civil society organizations, community members, and traditional leaders must work together to implement proposed laws and raise awareness about the effects of the practice.

According to Mukazayire, Female Genital Mutilation is a harmful traditional practice that stigmatizes women and girls. She highlighted that advocacy alone cannot stop FGM, saying it must be backed by laws.

Her comments come as the Legislature reviews a bill from President Joseph Boakai titled: "An Act to Ban Harmful Cultural Practices in Liberia" (or Women and Girls Protection Act of 2025).

The proposed legislation aims to permanently ban FGM and child marriage, moving beyond previous temporary bans to align with the president’s UN commitment to safeguard the rights and health of women and children.

The UN Women Specialist pointed out that a significant gap exists between commitments made and their implementation. She said, “We have been talking about FGM for a long time,” and emphasized that "while declarations are important, they often fall short when it comes to actual change on the ground."

She explained, “If there is no law, it becomes very difficult to hold people accountable or to support those who want to take action,” highlighting the importance of legal support in the fight against FGM.

Madam Mukazayire also reaffirmed UN agencies’ dedication to assisting Liberia’s efforts to eradicate FGM, while calling for strong collaboration.

Her remarks reflected on past efforts and issued a forward-looking call to action for all stakeholders to move beyond discussion into decisive, unified implementation.

The one-day partner meeting was organized by the National Coalition Against Harmful Practices at the One UN House, bringing together local government officials formerly with the Ministry of Internal Affairs, traditional leaders, civil society groups, campaigners, the United Nations office in Liberia, and others.

Monrovia, Liberia: The Liberian government has sent a strong caveat amid the increase in prices of petroleum products in the country, stating it will not hesitate to take punitive action against individuals caught exploiting its approved prices for gasoline and fuel oil on the local market.

Recently, the government, through the Liberia Petroleum and Refining Company (LPRC) and the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, announced a hike in petroleum prices.

This increase affected the price of a gallon of gasoline from about LD$650 to LD$910, while a gallon of fuel oil shifted from around LD$860 to LD$1080.

The Liberian government attributed these price hikes to ongoing conflicts in the Middle East, noting that the issue is a global concern.

Information Minister Jerolinmek Piah stated that the government is investigating reports of some petroleum operators selling a gallon of gasoline for LD$950 or higher, above the set price limit.

Speaking during the Ministry's regular press briefing on Tuesday, March 17, 2026, Minister Piah said the government will revoke the. Operational licenses of any petroleum importers found creating shortages or taking advantage of the price increase.

"Any importers of petroleum products who try to create any symbol of artificial shortages, the LPRC has said, and that represents the position of the government. That, when you are caught your operational license will be revoked. This is an issue that we will not compromise," Minister Piah stated.

Additionally, the government’s spokesperson assured the public that, despite the price hike, they are committed to ensuring petroleum products remain accessible in the local market.

"This is a global crisis, and what we are trying to do is to navigate in a very successful way to have the products we need even if it is at a cost that is consistent. To have the products both in country and market," he explained.

The Oilers faced strong resistance from the newcomers, going level in the regular four quarters. Fresh from the full quarter break, Knight Reapers intensified pressure to edge past the defending champions 56–55 points in the overtime.

Youngster Ayouba Swaray was instrumental in his side Knight Reapers' opening victory on Friday night at the SKD Basketball Gym in Paynesville. The lad scored significant points to contribute to the Reapers' win, which positioned them atop the First Division standings.

The intensity of the match kept spectators on the edges of their seats until the final whistle into the overtime. The result shocked many fans who had thought defending champions LPRC Oilers could begin the new season on a high note.

Monrovia, Liberia: The Liberia Football Association (LFA) has confirmed a stay order issued on the electoral activities of the body's pending April 18, 2026 elections by the Civil Law Court, as prayed for by a presidential hopeful, Cassell Kuoh.

Kouh who has faced heavy contention over his eligibility to contest in pending elections claimed irregularities in the FA electoral process and requested an injunction from the Court, while calling for an interpretation of specific guidelines regarding candidates' eligibility in the LFA Statutes.

The First Division Football Club Fassell's President declined to openly state the irregularities he claimed in the electoral process. Cassell Kuoh's eligibility contention is tied around his conviction for investment fraud in the United States back in 2017.

Since declaring his intention to contest the LFA Presidency, many football stakeholders have expressed strong opposition, saying his participation in the elective congress could violate statutes of the FA which require candidates to be clear of criminal records.

The Liberia Football Association's Statutes; Chapter 25, Article 58.1 states that "The President, Vice Presidents and Executive Committee members shall not have been found guilty of criminal offence".

But, with the appeal filed by Cassell Kuoh for further interpretation of clauses in the statutes regarding candidates' eligibility and guidelines set by the FA Elections Committee, it has opened doors for legal debate to determine his fate of participating in the elections.

As an injunction stands in, the court has petitioned the LFA Elections Committee and members of the LFA Executive Committee as respondents in a declaratory hearing. Among those listed are LFA President Mustapha Raji, along with officials including Meo Beyan, Robert Johnson, and Ibrahim Sheriff.

In the writ issued by the court on March 10, 2026, the respondents have been ordered to temporarily refrain from conducting any further activities related to the LFA elections until the court hears and decides the matter.

Meanwhile, Kouh, a strong opposition to the incumbent President Mustapha Raji, has repeatedly assured his supporters that he would be placed on the ballot in the LFA's April 18, 2026, elective congress and that there would be no white ballot for Raji.

"I want to make it categorically clear today, that Mustapha Raji whether the elections are going to be in your bedroom, you are going to face a candidate, and that candidate is Cassell Kuoh".

"My legal team and I found a lot of irregularities in the guidelines, and we decided to address them with immediate effect by placing an injunction on the current LFA guidelines".

"To make sure, we sort out those irregularities and create an avenue of fairness. So, this election cannot be with a contender Mustard Raji", Cassell Kuoh stated in a recent press conference.

Paynesville, Liberia: Despite the Liberia National Police's (LNP) sanction on acholic beverages at grave sites and cemeteries during the observance of this year's Decoration Day, citizens have come in defiance as many have been captured apparently selling prohibited drinks at various cemeteries.

The LNP had earlier announced to the general public that, as part of public safety measures during the Decoration Day on Wednesday March 11, 2026, there will be no selling or consumption of alcoholic beverages within the vicinity of any grave site across the country.

This measure, the Police says is intended to maintain order and preserve the dignity and respect associated with the occasion and that members of the public are asked to comply with this directive.

K-News reporter toured the Johnsonville Cemetery in Paynesville early Wednesday and captured footage of individuals selling alcoholic drinks in the open.

Many say the defiance of the individuals is due to the Liberia National Police's failure to enforce its mandate. Police officers are barely seen at the Johnsonville Cemetery, as citizens continue their normal businesses.

Decoration Day is observed in Liberia on every second Wednesday in March as Liberians from all walks gather to celebrate their respective departed loved ones.

Paynesville Liberia: Students and community residents are raising alarm over the current state of the Johnsonville Public School in District #2, Montserrado County, as a huge pile of garbage on the school premises is said to be causing inconvenience to the environment.

Students and residents alike said the wastes have taken over the latrines at the school, leaving many to abandon them and force their way in near bush to defecate.

Speaking to K-News at the site on the Johnsonville Public School Campus, a resident and also Chairman-elect of the Central Johnsonville Community, Eddie McGill, said feces are often discovered in open areas since the school latrines got clogged.

According to him, the garbage situation at the school is causing serious setbacks to the environment. Eddie is alarmed that, this, has polluted the air, and made eating in the surroundings unsafe.

The Central Johnsonville Community Chairman-elect said if not handled, the situation could cause a health outbreak in the area.

"You see this kind of garbage here and students are here. Let's get a clean space for our students. How will you feel, if you are a student in this institution? You think you must serve or sit in class with this kind of garbage here, will you not be affected? Our health is at risk".

"The students cannot access the toilet, so at the end of the day, you will see feces all on the ground. So no way, they will have to go into the bushes. We are actually living here like we are walking dead", he asserted.

Meanwhile, Eddie McGill is calling on the government through the Paynesville City Corporation (PPC) to swiftly intervene and address the waste problem at the school facility.

He wants the PCC to remove the garbage and regulate the disposal of waste in the area. The prominent resident of the Johnsonville Township believes the wastes are generated from the marketers in nearby areas.

"If you want to do the right thing, we are saying, clear the area and regulate the waste disposal. Let's give students access to get to their school, and let the environment be a safer place for all of us".

"You can eat or drink easily from around here, something needs to be done. This threatens the well-being of students and community residents", he emphasized.

MONROVIA, LIBERIA: Players and officials of the Grand Kru County Kickball Team have disclosed their intent to stage a protest against the county authorities over what they referred to as unpaid match allowances from the recently concluded National County Sports Meet.

According to players and officials, allowances for about three games remain unpaid since the end of the 2025/2026 National County Sports Meet, which took place roughly two months ago.

In an exclusive interview with K-News Sports, the Head Coach of the Grand Kru County Kickball Team, Joseph Tokpah, stated: "The county, they paid players for five and a half games, they owed players for two and a half games. And for the technical staff, four games, and three games each."

Tokpah further explained that players were told they would receive US$100 per game, and the roughly three matches, he said yet to be settled amount to about US$300 per individual player, with officials due allowances ranging from US$300 to US$400 each.

He claimed that the unpaid allowances cover matches in the quarter-finals, semi-finals, and the Third Place Final. "We are told US$100 per game. Since after the County Meet, we have not received the money, so we are planning to stage a protest soon if nothing is done promptly," Coach Tokpah asserted.

Grand Kru County Kickball Team participated in eight games during the recently concluded National County Sports Meet. The Barclayville girls dropped in the semi-final stage of the competition and were defeated 1-0 in the Third Place Final against Nimba County.

The boys team also played the same number of matches and finished as runners-up in the football category. They lost the grand final 2-0 to rivals Nimba County.

However, Grand Kru Kickball Team Head Coach Joseph Tokpah explained that the issue of unpaid match allowances is not unique to the girls’ team. He stated that players from the football team share the same concerns.

He claimed that series of engagements with the Sporting Steering Committee and the county authorities have not yielded results. "Since after our departure from the camp, the county superintendent made a commitment to pay the money. But every time the date approaches, they postpone it," Tokpah noted.

Meanwhile, the County Sports Steering Committee or authorities are yet to issue any formal response as an investigation continues into the matter.

MONROVIA, LIBERIA: Normal working activities at the Ministry of Transport came to a momentary standstill on Tuesday, March 3, following a protest staged by employees who said the operation of the Liberia Traffic Management Incorporated (LTMI) is undermining their jobs.

Aggrieved employees moved to block the main entrances of the Ministry, calling for the immediate cancellation of the concession agreement between the Liberia Traffic Management Incorporated and the government of Liberia.

According to reports, the Liberia Management Incorporated, a foreign-run company, signed a 25-year concession agreement with the Liberian government to oversee road traffic operations in the country.

The agreement outsourced the registration of driver's licenses and vehicle registrations to LTMI from the Ministry of Transport.

Protesting workers said that the outsourcing of key statutory functions of the Ministry has slowed down their assigned duties and expressed fear about the fate of their jobs.

One of the aggrieved employees, Lusu Yarcy, said the revenue collection generation on driver licenses and vehicle registration was instructed to be closed by the Ministry, although there is a case before the court on collection of revenue in that light in the face of the LMTI concession.

Yarcy said the job at the Transport Ministry is her only source of income. She stated that with the Liberia Traffic Management overseeing driver licensing and vehicle registration processes, it risks downplaying some workers and getting food off their tables.

"You take Liberians from the country and get it to Lebanese people? We get our family to feed. Our children are going to school on the salaries we earn. We are not going to take it."

"We are making our little salary here, and we are happy. They are making millions of dollars and they want to take out chicken change from us." Lusu noted.

The demonstration at the Ministry was later put under control by the police's intervention. Deputy Inspector General of Liberia National Police, Nelson Freeman, urged protesters to remain peaceful as they express their grievances.

He said it would be inappropriate to block entrances and stall the functions of the Ministry while expressing their dissatisfactions.

"We are encouraging you that if you have dissatisfactions, there are ways to express them. What we will not encourage is for anybody to stop the functionaries of government ministries", Freeman added.

Also speaking at the scene was the Director General of the Civil Service Agency, Josiah Joekai. He advised aggrieved employees to disengage, and assured them that their jobs remain intact in the face of the LTMI concession agreement.

"We have had meetings with all of your directors, who, in the face of the LTM no employee is losing his or her job, and that the government maintains you on the payroll. We are also going to work with you in the face of the transition", the CSA Boss stated.

The LTMI and the Ministry of Transport's simultaneous engagement on vehicle registrations and driver license issuances has sparked serious concerns in the public, especially among commercial motorists who are alarming that the situation is posing a setback to their transportation services.

PAYNESVILLE, LIBERIA: Several marketers in the commercial hub of Omega in Paynesville staged a protest on Friday, February 27, 2026, demanding the immediate removal of a huge pile of garbage in the area.

The aggrieved marketers, most of whom are plantain, bitter ball, and pepper sellers, said the mounting wastes at the "Ellen Building" in the market, poses a serious health risk to their well-being.

They narrated that since their relocation from the Red-light Market in 2021, there has been no effort by the market's management or the Paynesville City Corporation (PCC) to clear the wastes.

Speaking to K-News, the group spokesperson, Bendu Kamara, alleged that each vendor was requested to pay LD$500 to the Omega Market Superintendent, Jallah McClain, for the removal of the garbage, but stated that nothing of such has been done.

Bendu said the superintendent is yet to account for the amount collected. She emphasized that the deteriorating environment is causing customers to go away, leaving their business transactions to move at a slow pace.

"This dirt business started since we came from Red-light and came here in 2021. We are selling, but do not have the chance to do business well. We are not in peace; we are eating at a place where flies are all over, and our health matters".

"Customers are running away from this area because of the dirt. Our businesses are not even going. The market superintendent collected five hundred each from us and said he was going to make sure the garage is removed, but we are not seeing anything like that", the Bendu Kamara noted.

The Omega marketers are now calling on the government through the Paynesville City Corporation (PCC) to speedily intervene and address their plights.

They vowed to intensify their protest in the coming days if the relevant authorities refuse to remove the piles of dirt in the area.

"Our message to the PCC here is this, we are asking them to come and take the dirt because we are getting sick from it", they sound in a loud voice.

Meanwhile, when contacted, the Omega Market Superintendent Jallah McClain denied allegations of collecting money from marketers for the removal of the garbage.

McClain said he has only been conducting follow-ups to determine the cost of facilitating the removal of the wastes. According to him, only regular table fees have been collected.

"Nobody has ever collected five hundred dollars for garbage. Before you collect money, you need to do research or bring people who know about garbage disposal. How will you collect money from people when you do not know the garbage loads that will be carried", he responded.

ADDIS ABABA, ETHIOPIA: Liberian President Joseph Boakai has urged African member states on the United Nations Security Council to push for systemic reforms within the global body.

The Liberian Head of State said the United Nations stands at a crossroads, where bold decisions by African representatives are crucial to strengthening responses to peace and security challenges across the globe.

Addressing African leaders on Sunday, February 15, at a high-level consultation meeting in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, Boakai said delayed interventions in situations of instability and humanitarian crises in some nations are threatening global peace.

He called for a united African voice at the UN Security Council to ensure that security crises in affected countries receive swift attention.

President Boakai noted that Africa remains one of the most affected regions by political instability and financial constraints, adding that these challenges have limited development in many countries across the continent.

He said taking bold decisions would strengthen oversight of conflict resolution efforts in crisis-stricken parts of the world and place development initiatives at the core of the United Nations Security Council’s work.

“Calls for reform of the United Nations have grown broader and more urgent. Across Africa and the wider Global South, leaders have consistently underscored the importance of predictable financing, stronger prevention and mediation, and greater coherence among UN entities operating on the ground"

"The future of the United Nations will be shaped by those who choose to lead with clarity and courage. Africa must be among them, speaking with one voice, guided by shared principles, and committed to a multilateral system that truly serves all nations", he noted.

He furthered: “The difficulties facing the UN are not only financial. They are systemic. They concern how priorities are set, how mandates are implemented, how institutions coordinate, and how leadership navigates a world marked by rivalry, fragmentation, and declining trust. Reform must therefore be comprehensive, inclusive, and anchored in the lived realities of member states".

The Liberian President also called on the United Nations to prioritize economic investment in developing countries. He said low-income countries continue to face severe economic challenges, which are hindering national development.

"At this crossroads, our task is clear. We must engage constructively with all partners. We must welcome renewed commitments, including financial ones. But we must also insist that reform goes beyond budgets and addresses the deeper questions of relevance, effectiveness, and trust", he told African leaders.

KLAY DISTRICT, BOMI COUNTY: Concerns are rising over the lack of staff at the government of Liberia-owned Willie H. Kimbah Elementary School in Mana Clan, Klay District, Bomi County

The school, established in 2012, is said to be operating with only one staff member, serving as both Principal and Classroom Teacher.

The school's principal, Morris Sirleaf, told journalists in an interview that the situation has persisted since the establishment of the institution.

According to him, he is overwhelmed being the only staff member at the Willie H. Kimbah Elementary Public School, which has a population of over 60 students.

Sirleaf lamented that the lack of staff is undermining effective learning at the government-owned institution, which runs from Kindergarten to 6th Grade.

"Since the establishment of the school in 2021, I am the only teacher there. I am the one teaching all of the subjects. This is a recognized school. It is not this school alone, but many schools here face the same problem. The lack of staff is the main problem we face", Sirleaf stated.

The Willie H. Kimbah Elementary Public School Principal explained that there have been a series of communications filed to the county authority and the Ministry of Education but to no avail.

Morris Sirleaf said if not addressed, the situation has the propensity to paralyze the operation of the school. He emphasized that education in the rural parts of the country must be given equal attention to that of the Urban area.

Sirleaf however urged the national government to take urgent steps to address the long-standing staff crisis at the institution, stating that doing so will improve learning activities and build a solid foundation of pupils.

"I have written complaints and the Ministry of Education is aware of the situation, including representatives and senators of Bomi County".

"There has been no intervention, and this is seriously affecting learning at the institution. I am asking the government to assign teachers to the school", Principal Morris Sirleaf asserted.

As concerns heighten, residents including educators and advocates across the county say the situation risks plunging the school to shut down and crippling education in Bomi County.

FC Fassell went level in the first half against Jubilee FC, before regenerating efforts in the second half to net four goals, sealing a crucial 3-point at the SKD Mini Stadium in Paynesville.

The decisive win brought FC Fassell's tally to 35 points, overtaking LISCR FC, who earlier held the top spot. With points tied between the two sides, FC Fassell leads LISCR FC by a 6-goal margin.

The Soccer Missionaries have been impressive in recent league matches. Coach Fabio Lopez's side has gone unbeaten in their last 9 league matches—winning 7 and drawing 2.

The impressive stats have significantly boosted the Soccer Missionaries' title defense chase in the 2025/2026 league season, and positioned them as a strong competitor once more, this season.

FC Fassell began the season on a struggling note, which created serious doubt about their bid to retain the league championship.

With roughly 11 games remaining to conclude the league season, the LFA First Division League title race stands tightly contested, as LISCR FC holds an advantage with a game in hand.

A win or draw for LISCR FC in their upcoming league fixture will overturn FC Fassell's lead, but a loss will leave them lagging behind.

Sports pundits say the title race appears unpredictable, and the championship could be decided by the consistency of teams' performances.

MONROVIA, LIBERIA: The Montserrado Caucus of the Mano River Union Youth Parliament has described the nomination of Atty. Cornelia Kruah as Liberia's Minister of Youth and Sports as "legally grounded" amid criticisms that her appointment violates the Executive Law.

Atty. Cornelia Kruah was nominated as Youth and Sports Minister on January 21, 2026, by President Joseph Boakia, to replace Cllr. Jerror Cole Bangalu who has been appointed to the Liberia Refugee Repatriation and Resettlement Commission.

Atty. Kruah who previously served as Deputy Minister for Administration at the Ministry of State, latest post has come under scrutiny, with some citizens stating that her nomination contravenes the 1972 Executive Law Title 12, Liberia Code of Laws Revised.

One of the critics, J. Gabriel Nyenka, a Former Montserrado County Lawmaker has called for the rejection of Kruah's nomination

through a communication forwarded to the Liberian Senate.

He argued that President Joseph Boakia failed to consider Part II, Chapter 10, Section 10.2, of the Executive Law, which demands the appointment of at least one member of the cabinet from each county of the republic-emphasis supplied.

But in a sharp response to growing criticisms over the nomination, the MRU Montserrado County Youth Parliament characterized them as "legally unsustainable and constitutionally misleading."

In a recent press statement, signed by Jamaima S. Tweh, a Parliamentarian representing Montserrado County and Chairperson on Gender and Inclusion, of the Caucus, added that the nomination is justified by a phrase under Section 10.2 of the Executive Law, which indicates “as far as practicable", in county representation of cabinet appointment.

This nuance, they argue, establishes a guiding principle rather than a strict legal obligation.

The caucus further stated that according to Article 54 of the 1986 Constitution of Liberia, the President has the constitutional authority to nominate Cabinet Ministers, subject to the consent of the Senate.

According to them, the authority is discretionary and should be exercised in the broader national interest, taking into account competence, integrity, and effective governance.

“Constitutional guarantees of equality and non-discrimination must be upheld,”. “To deny a qualified Liberian citizen public office based on geography or age contradicts both the letter and spirit of our Constitution", the MRU Youth Parliament Montserrado Caucus noted.

Highlighting the importance of the appointment, the Caucus emphasized that Atty. Kruah’s youthfulness should be seen as an asset rather than a liability.

With the majority of Liberia's population under the age of 35, they stressed that meaningful youth engagement in governance is essential for the nation's future.

The group also underscored that the nomination supports gender equity in government. They noted that women are still underrepresented in senior positions and that nominating women in ministerial positions is a necessary step toward achieving inclusive governance and social justice.

“Atty. Cornelia Kruah possesses the professional qualifications, legal training, and leadership capacity necessary for effective public leadership,” the statement asserted. “Public offices should be accessible to all qualified citizens, not just the politically entrenched citizens.”

As the Senate prepares to review Atty. Cornelia Kruah’s nomination, the Montserrado Caucus has urged the body to evaluate the nomination based on constitutional merit and the national interest.

A spokesperson of Nigerian President Bola Tinubu has disclosed that the President is "in great shape" despite his stumble and subsequent fall on Tuesday, January 27th, at a reception ceremony in Turkey.

President Tinubu was seen on the official video on the Turkish president's X account moving to his right when he stumbled and fell.

The footage briefly security rushing to help the Nigerian President. It took off a few minutes, before Tinubu was seen back linking up with his Turkish Counterpart Recep Tayyip Erdogan in the Capital Ankara.

Bayo Onanuga, a spokesman for the president, confirmed that Tinubu had stepped on a metal object "on the floor, which caused him lose his balance.

Boya told international media that the President is proceeding normally, and the occurrence should not be considered as a big deal.

"This is not a big deal, except for those who want to make mischief out of a fleeting incident. It was a mere stumble, thank God, not a fall," he stated.

The last time the president fell over in public, in June 2024, he cracked a joke about it, saying many thought he was doing a popular dance move.

This time, the incident was described as a "mild misstep" by an aide, and there was also a lot of sympathy for Tinubu, including from leading opposition politician Atiku Abubakar, who called it an "unfortunate incident".

Some say it may be due to the age factor. Tinubu is 73 years old in his capacity as President of Nigeria.

Officials said Tinubu's visit to Turkey was aimed at strengthening the existing cordial relations with Turkey.

MONROVIA, LIBERIA: The Liberia Football Association (LFA) First Division League title race is at a boiling point, after league leaders Watanga FC stumbled in a draw, leaving second-placed LISCR FC to close the points gap on the top spot.

Leaders Watanga returned to action for the league's second phase settling to a 1-1 draw with Wologisi FC on Sunday, January 25, which saw them failing to maintain their 2 points lead. The draw only took Watanga FC's tally from 31 to 32 points.

The title race intensified after LISCR FC triumphed 2-0 over Gardnersville FC, increasing their points in the second place from 29 to 32; which now levels on Watanga FC's points tally in the top spot.

Watanga FC now leads the table with 1 goal difference ahead of LISCR FC. The Shipping Boys, LISCR FC, made a strong start to the second phase, dominating Gardnersville FC to sit neck-to-neck with the league leaders.

Coach Kelvin Swebe’s side took the lead against Gardnersville FC in the first half through a beautiful strike from Eric Ametepe. After the break, LISCR maintained sustained pressure, which paid off when Ametepe completed a brace to seal the 2-0 victory.

With several matches still to be played in the second phase of the 2025/2026 season, football pundits believe the First Division League title race remains wide open and unpredictable as clubs battle to determine their fate.

Watanga FC have kept atop the table for the last couple of months. The club at one stage of the season led the table by five-point difference.

With the club currently leveled on points with second-placed LISCR FC, it threatens their stay at the top of the league table and dreams of reclaiming the championship after two more than two seasons.

Analysts say, the league championship success now depends largely on clubs' consistency, as third-placed FC Fassell and fourth-placed Paynesville FC remain in high contention with 29 and 27 points respectively.

MONROVIA, LIBERIA: Benetta Urey, the President of Upper Women's League club Shaita Angels, has taken serious exception to the five-year ban imposed on her from all football-related activities by the Liberia Football Association (LFA).

The LFA on Thursday, January 8, 2026, sanctioned Miss. Urey after findings into investigation linked her to match manipulation during the 2024/2025 season between first division league clubs Shaita FC VS Paynesville FC and Freeport FC VS Paynesville FC.

The controversy sparked after relegation-threatened Shaita FC shockingly defeated in-formed Paynesville FC 7-0 during the latter stage of the league season. The controversy heightened when Paynesville FC recalibrated to Freeport FC 3-2, raising concerns about match fixing.

Allegations emerged that the female football stakeholder, Benetta Urey, financially influenced players of Paynesville FC to lose bigly against her interest club Shaita FC to redeem goals against and help save the team from facing relegation; though they succumbed at the end of the season.

Many held the view that given Shaita FC's poor performance, it was impossible for the club to defeat in-formed Paynesville FC 7 goals to 0. This promoted months of investigation, which came to a final conclusion on Thursday, January 8, 2026.

The Liberia Football Association through its Grievance and Disciplinary Committee found the Shaita Angels President liable of the match fixing allegations and said the actions violated Part I, Chapter 2 (20)(1&3) of the FIFA Disciplinary Code on Manipulation of football matches and competitions.

According to the football body, the violation warranted her five-year ban from all football-related activities including administrative, sports, and any other and barred from entering any stadium hosting football activities. In the same vein, a Paynesville FC player Eugene Swen was also banned from all football-related activities for a period of two years.

But reacting to her sanction, Benetta Urey denied any involvement in match manipulation between Shaita FC VS Paynesville FC or Freeport FC VS Paynesville FC.

The Shaita Angels President said the LFA's sanction lacks merit, and described it as a politically motivated move to silence her critical stance against the leadership of Mustapha Raji at Liberia Football Association.

Miss Urey who took to her personal Facebook handle, claimed that the investigation indicting her was based on speculation. She stated that her open support towards Cassell Kuoh, a presidential hope in the upcoming LFA Congress, has made her a target under the Raji's administration.

Incumbent President Mustapha Raji has announced his decision to seek a third-term, and opposition figure Cassell Kuoh has vowed to challenge Raji's re-election. Benetta Urey in recent times has been a fierce critic of Raji's leadership.

As a stakeholder, Miss Urey has repeatedly vowed to oppose Raji's third-term bid, citing slow pace of football development under the current regime; even though the LFA has boasted of making gains.

With less than four months to the LFA 2926 Congress, she believes her ban is an intimidation towards opposition voices in the football community.

"The Liberia Football Association Grievance and Disciplinary Committee has issued a claim alleging my involvement in match manipulation. I categorically reject and denounce this claim as false, misleading, and politically motivated".

"This baseless accusation is clearly intended to target me because of my open support for Cassell A. Kuoh’s presidential bid. The so‑called ban is founded on mere speculation and gossip, with no proof, no evidence, and not a single individual coming forward to claim that I ever gave them money", she stated.

Meanwhile, Miss. Urey has insisted to appeal the decision of the Grievances and Disciplinary committee of the Liberia Football Association, regarding her sanction in the soonest possible time.

"I will appeal this decision and pursue all necessary legal actions to defend my integrity and the reputation of all opposition team leaders as we have become a constant target by this current football government", Benetta Urey noted.

MONROVIA, LIBERIA: Grand Cape Mount County's Football Team is finally through to the Quarterfinals of the 2025/2026 National County Sports Meet following the reaffirmation of the Grievances and Ethics Committee's ruling by the Organizing Committee of the National County Sports Meet.

In a hearing on Friday, January 2, 2026, the Organizing Committee of the tournament overturned the recent ruling by the Appeal's Board which ordered a rematch between Grand Cape Mount and Lofa counties to resolve their disputed final group stage match.

The Committee instead welcomed the initial ruling by the Grievances and Ethics Committee awarding 3 points and 2 goals to Grand Cape Mount County, and disqualifying Lofa County for reportedly breaching the tournament's standing rules on players' eligibility.

Grand Cape Mount County had filed a protest accusing Lofa County of fielding Four First Division players in their 3-1 win on Sunday, December 21, 2025 against them. After a thorough investigation by the Grievances and Ethics Committee, Lofa County was held liable, and forfeited the points to Grand Cape Mount.

The Grievances and Ethics Committee said the action was in violation of Article 11 of the players' eligibility rules, which permits a county to register and use at most three First Division players at any given time on the pitch.

The initial ruling favored Grand Cape Mount, but Lofa County immediately took an exception, filing a request for review of the Grievances and Ethics Committee's decision at the Appeal Board.

The Appeal Board reversed the initial ruling, stating that the fielding of players Francis Doe and Jeremiah Johnson by Lofa County in question as First Division players, was the fault of the Liberia Football Association's and the Ministry of Youth and Sports' vetting process.

The Appeal Board suspended the players, but said the situation cannot result in Lofa County disqualification, a ruling that reinstated hope for Lofa County and fueled disappointment in Grand Cape Mount County. As a result, the Board ordered a reply of the disputed match.

Grand Cape Mount County opposed the Appeal Board's ruling, seeking clarification from the general organizing committee of the tournament.

The clarification hearing was attended by both counties' legal teams at the Ministry of Youth and Sports at the SKD Sports Complex in Paynesville City.

The hearing that lasted for hours, saw Grand Cape Mount representatives coming out with high energy after the initial ruling that favored them was regranted.

Organizing Committee in the clarification hearing states: "The transfers of players Jeremiah Johnson and Francis Doe were conducted outside the established procedures".

MONROVIA, LIBERIA: The Appeal Board of the Organizing Committee of the National County Sports Meet has overturned the initial ruling by the Grievances and Ethics Committee in the protest case involving Lofa and Grand Cape Mount counties.

The Appeal Board on Wednesday, December 31, 2025 handed down its verdict, reversing the disqualification of Lofa County over alleged breach of players' eligibility and ordering a replay of the disputed match against Grand Cape Mount County.

Initially, the Grievances and Ethics Committee disqualified Lofa County following an investigation into a protest filed by Grand Cape Mount alleging that Lofa fielded Four First Division players in their 3-1 against them (Grand Cape Mount) in the group stage.

The initial ruling on Monday, December 29, 2025 awarded Grand Cape Mount three points and two goals, advancing them to the quarter-finals, while Lofa County who had already qualified for the next stage forfeited the crucial points and faced elimination from the tournament.

The Grievances and Ethics Committee referenced its decision to Article 11 of the tournament’s standing rules on player eligibility, which allows a county to field a maximum of three first-division players at any given time during the game.

Grand Cape Mount in their protest accused Lofa of registering players Francis Doe and Jeremiah Johnson outside their division as first league players.

The County noted that the players were instead registered under Third Division slots, rising Lofa County's number of First Division players to four in breach of the permitted three, something which the committee's investigation held Lofa County liable for.

However, Lofa County immediately appealed the decision at the Appeal Board, arguing that Grand Cape Mount County failed to file its protest within the stipulated time and that the Grievances and Ethics Committee did not observe due process.

Lofa's appeal also noted that officials from the clubs involved in the transfers of players Francis Doe and Jeremiah Johnson were not adequately consulted to provide the status of the players' transfers.

Meanwhile, after a thorough review, the Appeal Board ruled that the eligibility issues surrounding the two players were the faults of the Liberia Football Association and Ministry of Youth and Sports before the kickoff of the tournament.

As a result, the Board stated that the two players will be suspended, but their situation does not warrant the disqualification of Lofa County. The Board determined that Grand Cape Mount failed to complete their protest against Lofa in the stipulated time.

The Appeal Board, the highest decision-making body surrounding conflicts in the tournament, at the same time instructed the organizing committee to schedule a replay match between both counties, canceling the initial score.

In its ruling, the Appeal Board stated: “The earlier result from the previous match between Lofa and Grand Cape Mount is hereby declared null and void. The two players in question are suspended from the tournament, and Lofa County is granted the opportunity to replace them.”

The replay match will be held on a date and time to be announced by the Organizing Committee of the National County Sports Meet.

Both Lofa and Grand Cape Mount counties will now compete for the final qualifying spot in Group C.

A victory for either team will secure qualification for the quarter-finals alongside Grand Bassa County.

The 2025/2026 National County Sports Meet has already reached the quarter-final stage. Eight counties will compete in the football and kickball categories respectively.

The National County Sports Meet is an annual tournament hosted by the Ministry of Youth and Sports, and is regarded as Liberia’s biggest sporting festival.

MONROVIA, LIBERIA: The Ministry of Youth and Sports has imposed fines on Lofa, River Cess, and Gbarpolu counties for violent conduct during their final group stage matches of the 2025/2026 National County Sports Meet.

The fines ranged from US$5,000 each for Lofa and Gbarpolu, and US$1,500 for River Cess. The disciplinary action also includes the suspension of 7 officials (for 5 years) and 17 kickball players (for 3 years) from Lofa County, as well as the suspension of 3 kickball players (for 2 years) from River Cess County.

According to the Ministry, the three counties were held liable for the disruption of matches and attacks on match officials following a thorough investigation of incidents that occurred in their final group stage matches.

It was reported that players of the Lofa County Kickball team physically attacked match officials after their 0-0 draw against Grand Cape Mount County on Sunday, December 21, 2025, at the SKD Sports Complex.

The tension erupted after the Lofa County Kickball Team failed to collect a compulsory win against their opponents, which led to their elimination from the tournament on the final matchday in Group C.

On the other hand, River Cess and Gbarpolu counties were tied to match disruptions. The Ministry's investigation found River Cess liable for disrupting the final Group A Kickball match vs. Grand Kru.

The report said, players of River Cess were seen assaulting referees at the Martha Tubman Sports Pitch in Harper City, Maryland County.

Gbarpolu's fines followed disruptions of the game between group members Montserrado and Bong Counties by people believed to be their supporters.

It was reported that stones were thrown at the Bopolu Sports Pitch by spectators who speculated match fixing between Montserrado and Bong Counties. The action resulted in a premature cut-off and suspicion of the last Group D encounter.

Imposing the fines on Tuesday, December 23, 2025, the Youth and Sports Minister, Jerror Cole Bangalu, said the three counties' actions breached section 24.3 of the 2025 National County Sports Meet.

Minister Bangalu quoted: "Any county player(s) caught fighting within the game vicinity before; during; and immediately after the game shall be suspended and fined as deem necessary by the organizing committee of the NCSM".

He said the National County Sports Meet is an arena of sports for unity, respect and fair play. Minster Bangalu stated that the Ministry will not relent to enforce the rules and regulations governing the competition.

"The Ministry stands resolute and unyielding in its commitment to uphold transparency, justice, and fair play across all sporting activities under our jurisdiction", said Minister Jerror Cole Bangalu.

All seems not to be over for the hopes of the Super Eagles of Nigeria to qualify for the FIFA World Cup 2026. The Nigeria Football Federation has struck a strong case against DR Congo, which could potentially bring them back into contention for a qualifying spot to the World Cup.

Weeks after their elimination from the African qualifiers, Nigeria has officially petitioned FIFA, protesting DR. Congo's victory over them.

The Nigeria Football Federation has complained that DR. fielded ineligible players against them in their 4-3 win during the final African play-offs qualifiers match in November 2025.

Nigeria and the DR Congo drew 1-1 on the field of play in Morocco, before going into a penalty shootout, where the Congolese triumphed 4-3. Nigeria has argued that DR. Congo fielded about six players who face identity issues.

They claimed that the players in question hold dual citizenship and were ineligible to play for the country. Research shows that DR. Congo does not recognize dual nationality. The issues have birthed another lifeline for Nigeria.

The Nigeria Football Federation Secretary General, Dr Mohammed Sanusi, confirmed their petition: “The Congolese rules say you cannot have dual citizenship. Some of the players have European passports. The rules are very clear, and we have submitted our petition. Our concern is that FIFA was deceived into clearing them".

Meanwhile, FIFA has acknowledged Nigeria's protest against DR. Congo. The Football governing body is expected to review the matter and render a decision.

On the other side of the divide, the DR Congo Football Federation has refuted Nigeria's clams, stating that the Super Eagles are attempting to qualify through what it described as using the "back door”.

If the Super Eagles' appeal is granted, they would advance to the six-team Intercontinental Play-Off in March 2026, leaving a heartbreaking for DR. Congo, who have already made their way.

But if rejected, Nigeria's hopes of qualifying for the 2026 FIFA World Cup will be finally over.

The final group stage match between Montserrado and Bong counties in the ongoing National County Sports Meet on Saturday, December 20th, was suspended following a violent disruption by fans at the Bopolu's Sports Pitch in Gbarpolu County.

K-News Sports gathered that Montserrado County had taken a 2-1 when angry fans began throwing stones onto the pitch, forcing match officials to halt the play before eventually suspending the match.

Montserrado and Bong counties entered the decider their battle with 1 point each in the three-team Group D. A draw above 2-2 could have favored the qualification of both teams to the quarterfinals.

Reports reaching our sports desk indicate that some spectators believed to be supporters of group hosts Gbarpolu County grew dissatisfied with the pace of the match between Montserrado and Bong counties.

Tensions flared when Montserrado County restored their lead 2-1 over Bong County, which saw spectators throwing bottles and other objects on the pitch.

In the match, Montserrado County opened the scoring before Bong County’s Kpatawee Boys equalized. Montserrado later regained the lead to make it 2-1.

Sports analysts say the trend of the score posed a serious threat to Gbarpolu County’s chances of progressing.

Gbarpolu, who have completed their group matches, currently sit atop Group D with two points. Montserrado and Bong counties occupy second and third places respectively, with one point each.

Predictions had already suggested that any draw higher than 2-2 would see both Montserrado and Bong advancing from the group.

According to reports, the match has now been postponed and is expected to proceed at a later date.

This is a developing story...

Grand Gedeh County: House Speaker Richard Nagbe Koon has vowed that his leadership will continue to work tirelessly to support the Unity Party–led government’s ARREST agenda, promising that the Legislature will be a dependable partner in advancing the nation’s development priorities.

Speaking to reporters on Thursday, December 18, in Grand Gedeh, Speaker Koon said his leadership remains firmly pro-government. “We are committed to ensuring that the promises made to Liberians are not just words on paper but actions that improve lives. My team and I will work hand-in-hand with the Executive to ensure effective governance,” he said.

He explained that his ascendency to the speakership was prompted by challenges faced by the Executive under former Speaker J. Fonati Koffa. “During the previous leadership, there were numerous difficulties surrounding the passage of key legislative instruments. Bills critical to national development were delayed, and this hampered the government’s ability to deliver on its agenda,” he noted.

Speaker Koon argued that an opposition-led House makes it difficult for a government to function efficiently. “It is extremely challenging for any government to operate effectively with an opposition speaker. The Executive requires a cooperative Legislature to pass laws that benefit all Liberians. Unfortunately, the prior leadership was often bogged down by conflicts of interest and political distractions,” he said.

Addressing critics who have referred to him as a “regime speaker,” Koon stressed that the label does not imply a lack of independence. “Some have called me a regime speaker. Let me be clear this does not mean I am a rubber stamp or that I lack independence. It reflects my commitment to collaboration. My goal is to ensure that the Legislature works in harmony with the Executive for the betterment of our people,” he said.

He further assured Liberians that his tenure would focus on legislative efficiency. “We will prioritize passing bills that create jobs, improve infrastructure, strengthen education, and enhance healthcare. Governance must be about results, not politics,” he added.

Political analysts in Monrovia have interpreted Speaker Koon’s remarks as a clear signal that the House will take a more cooperative stance with the Executive than in previous years. Observers say his commitment to the ARREST agenda an initiative focusing on Accountability, Reform, Economic growth, Security, and Transparency could accelerate legislative action on key government programs.

Speaker Koon concluded, “Our mission is simple: deliver tangible progress to Liberians. We owe it to our citizens to ensure that government policies translate into real benefits in their daily lives. That is the essence of effective governance.”

HARPER, MARYLAND COUNTY: The 2025/2026 National County Sports Meet, Liberia’s most celebrated sporting tournament, began on Saturday, December 13, 2025. The opening matches ended in draws as Maryland and Grand Kru Counties competed in both kickball and football at the Martha Tubman Sports Pitch in Harper City.

In the first kickball match, hosts Maryland County faced Grand Kru County. The game concluded without any scores, resulting in a goalless draw.

Both teams struggled to secure a home run after several innings, leaving their supporters eager for victories as the tournament progresses. Currently, Maryland and Grand Kru's kickball teams are tied in Group A, each earning one point from the opening match.

In the recent football match, Maryland County and Grand Kru Counties faced off in an exciting encounter that ended in a draw.

Grand Kru took an early lead, but Maryland quickly responded before halftime with a goal from young talent Delton Kollie, leveling the score at 1-1 by the break.

The second half saw increased momentum as Grand Kru regained the lead, making it 2-1. However, they struggled to maintain their pace, which allowed Maryland to apply consistent pressure. This ultimately paid off with a dramatic equalizer from Ezekiel Tamba in stoppage time.

Both teams left the pitch unable to secure a victory, ultimately sharing the points in a 2-2 draw.

As a result, the football teams from Maryland and Grand Kru Counties each have one point in the Group. The double draws have placed these two counties neck and neck at the top of Group A.

Reacting to the outcome, Maryland County Football Team's Deputy Head Coach, Emmanuel Gartor, described the match as encouraging for his team's campaign opener. He noted that the comeback showcased his players' resilience and determination in the tournament.

“This result has brought hope and inspiration to the people of Maryland County. If you watched the game, you would have seen that we struggled with fatigue, especially since nearly seventy percent of our starting players arrived late from Monrovia and were still included in the match-day squad,” Gartor said.

The tournament kicked off on Saturday, December 13, 2025, in Harper City, gathering government officials, traditional leaders, and a diverse group of citizens. The Minister of Youth and Sports, Jeror Cole Bangalu, officially inaugurated the event.

MONROVIA, LIBERIA: The Ministry of Youth and Sports has announced a change to the quarter-finals draw of the National County Sports Meet. Starting with the 2025/2026 edition of the tournament, the format will shift from the traditional knockout system to a round-robin format.

The National County Sports Meet, Liberia's largest football and kickball festival, is returning for the 2025/2026 season with this new structure. In the quarter-finals, counties will play multiple matches to determine their advancement to the next stage of the competition.

According to the Ministry, the eight teams that qualify from the preliminary rounds for the quarter-finals will be divided into two groups of four. The winners and runners-up from each group will secure spots in the semi-finals.

The Assistant Minister for Youth and Sports, Murvee Gray, explained that the round-robin format will allow each quarter-finalist to compete in three matches. The winners and runners-up will be determined based on points and goal differentials.

Assistant Minister Gray also noted that, unlike the knockout system, counties that lose in their first match of the quarter-finals will still have a chance to qualify. Their prospects will depend on their performance in subsequent matches during the round-robin playoffs.

The knockout system in the National County Sports Meet quarter-finals was an elimination phase where teams defeated in the one-leg encounter were knocked out of the competition.

The knockout system in the National County Sports Meet quarter-finals was previously an elimination phase where teams that lost in a single match were knocked out of the competition.

However, according to the Ministry, the traditional knockout format will now only be used for the semi-finals and the grand finals.

"In phase two of the National County Sports Meet, eight teams will qualify for the quarter-finals and will be divided into two groups of four. They will compete in a round-robin format. One game is not enough to fairly determine a team's abilities, so we are allowing each team to play at least three games," stated Assistant Minister Gray.

He added, "The winners and runners-up from each group will qualify for the semi-finals." The introduction of the round-robin format aims to enhance the tournament experience for fans.

"People have always longed for the county meet, and we want to provide the players and counties with more playing time. They cherish the tournament deeply, so we need to design it in a way that allows it to last a bit longer," he stated.

This year's edition of the National County Sports Meet is themed "Inclusive Development through Sports." The tournament began on Saturday, December 13, 2025, in Harper City, Maryland County.

The National County Sports Meet brings together the fifteen political subdivisions of Liberia, known as counties, to compete in football, kickball, and various other sports disciplines.

This year's preliminary round fixtures are as follows:

Group A: Hosts Maryland, Rivercess, Grand Kru, and River Gee Counties. Group B: Nimba, Bomi, Sinoe County, and Margibi Counties. Group C: Grand Bassa, Lofa, Grand Gedeh, and Grand Cape Mount Counties. Group D: Gbarpolu, Bong, and Montserrado Counties.

BUCHANAN, GRAND BASSA COUNTY: Jubilee Football Club's winless streak this season in the Liberia Football Association (LFA) First Division League has stretched to five games following a massive defeat to FC Fassell.

The Church Boys experienced another setback in their campaign on Monday, December 6, 2025, losing 5-0 against defending champions FC Fassell at the Doris William Sports Pitch in Port City of Buchanan, Grand Bassa County.

Jubilee FC went down 3-0 in the first half against the Soccer Missionaries, before conceding two additional goals in the second half. The defeat extended the team's wait for a win this season.

Jubilee FC's poor run began from their opening league fixture, in which they suffered a 2-0 defeat against Bea Mountain FC. Since then, the club has continued to face consistent defeats.

The team was whipped in their subsequent matches against Watanga FC, LISCR FC, Gardnersville FC, and the latest against FC Fassell. Jubilee FC currently lies at the bottom of the LFA First Division league table with zero points, facing relegation threats.

Sports analysts say the club's disappointing start to the 2025/2026 season may be due to the time taken off to argue its initial relegation to the Third Division League by the Liberia Football Association.

Jubilee FC was relegated to the Third Division by the Football body for reportedly breaching the standing rules of the league. This, the FA said, was a submission of fake business registration documents by the club during the 2024/2025 season.

Jubilee FC challenged the LFA's relegation decision, with an appeal to the Court of Arbitration for Sport, which it was ordered that it be temporarily reinstated in the league when the transfer window had already closed.

Pundits believe the months of legal debate that still persist between the club and the LFA hampered Jubilee FC's preparation process for the league.

The squad seems to be lacking composure with limited training sessions and missing out on key signings before the start of the season.

Jubilee FC now copes with a lot of third division recruited players amidst the transfer window closure, following its temporary reinstatement.

However, fans are optimistic that the team will return to its winning form as the season progresses.

Jubilees are left with 9 games in the first phase of the league and could be desperate to sharpen their squad during the mid-season break.

The female junior Lone Star retained their championship after narrowly trashing hosts Sierra Leone 2-1 on Saturday, December 6, 2025 at the Southern Arena Stadium in Bo City.

Both Liberia and Sierra Leone had drawn 3 consecutive games in the two-nation tournament, before going into the tie-breaker in the grand final, which saw the Red, White and Blue girls triumping.

Liberia took the lead just after 2 minutes of play following a defensive blunder from the Sierra Leoneons that saw youngster Olive Nyumah finishing a deflected ball inside the penalty area.

Coach Famata Dean's girls never pulled back after taking the lead, keeping their opponents under intense pressure, until the Real Muja rising Olive Nyumah set in another goal in the 31st minute to extend the lead and seal a brace for herself.

However, the Sierra Leoneons responded swiftly with a powerful strike to reduce the score gap to 2-1 just before the halftime whistle. After the break, Liberia sharply defended her narrow lead to secure the crucial win.

The 2025 trophy marked yet another milestone for the young Lone Star. The Red, White and Blue side triumphed in the maiden edition over Sierra Leone and Guinea in 2024 under the guidance of former manager Salem Kebede.

The team has received praises for its growing dominance on the regional scene. Pundits believe the back-to-back MRU championship win signaled an improvement for women's football in Liberia.
