Coach Reo Nyanti resigned his post with immediate effect on Thursday amidst growing concerns about the club's poor run this season.

Nyanti was appointed as Head Coach in September 2025, on a three-year deal but managed less than 8 months in charge with the New Kru Town boys.

Under Nyanti's watch, the club was only able to secure four wins from 21 league games so far in the 2025/2025 LFA First Division season.

His resignation follows what Borough FC is now experiencing as one of its worst seasons in the Liberia Football Association (LFA) First Division League.

In a formal communication to the club, Coach Reo Nyanti stated: “It has been an honor to have served in the position of head coach of such a great organization. Unfortunately, I will be unable to continue my role.”

The young Lone Star faced double defeats in their placement matches in the hand of host nation Togo. The U-18 team suffered a heavy defeat by 25–05, while the U-20 side also fell short, losing 30–12 to Togo.

Liberia Handball Teams' losses came after missing their opening matches of the competition due to late arrival—following delays at the Ghana–Togo border.

According to reports, the teams were left stranded following passports check at the Aflao border between Ghana and Togo.

A journalist traveling with the team revealed that the delegation was stuck for more than nine hours upon crossing into the Togolese territory, before later being released after the country's sports authority intervened.

Officials of the Liberia National Handball Federation said the situation caused serious trauma for the players and may have contributed to their poor performance in the qualifiers.

The situation also led to Liberia's forfeiture of her opening matches which ruled out her qualification chances. The teams were left with only an option for placement matches, to either improve their raking, but flopped in the group.

The 2026 International Handball Federation (IFH) Men's Africa Zone 3 qualifiers concluded over the week. It featured eight West African Zone 3 member countries including Liberia, Benin, Burkina Faso, Ghana, Côte d'Ivoire, Niger, Nigeria, and host nation Togo.

Meanwhile, Nigeria emerged victorious in both categories of the qualifiers. The Super Eagles' U-18 team secured a commanding 32–18 victory over Ivory Coast, while the U-20 side triumphed over Benin with a 39–29 scoreline, sealing a clean sweep for the West African giants.

Legal experts argue that although Kouh is granted the constitutional right, the court has declared it has no jurisdiction to decide on Articles 45.4 and 58.1 of the LFA Statutes, which state that "The President, Vice President, and Executive Committee Members shall not have been found guilty of a criminal offence."

These statutes, legal experts say could hunt Presidential Aspirant Cassell A. Kouh if included in the election guidelines.

Kouh was convicted for investment fraud in 2017 in the United States. His eligibility to contest has been strongly challenged under the LFA 2018 approved Statutes.

The Civil Law Court on Thursday, April 9, lifted the permanent injunction placed on the LFA elections and ordered petitioner Cassell A. Kouh to submit to the electoral process.

Assigned Judge Peter Gbeneweleh declared: "This Court hereby declares the rights of Petitioner Cassell Anthony Kouh to contest the LFA upcoming elections, and he should avail himself to the electoral process".

 "Wherefore and in view of the foregoing, this Court hereby declines jurisdiction over the constitutionality of the LFA 2018 approved statutes, same being cognizable before the Supreme Court of Liberia".

Following the ruling, LFA Legal Representative Cllr. Michael Jeke said Kouh's fate to contest remains unresolved.

He noted that Cassell A. Kouh could apply, but the statutes that could potentially bar him are still in place. Cllr. Jeke stated that if the LFA enforces these statutes, the matter will then take a new twist, and could only be decided by the Supreme Court.

The argument by Kouh's legal team to remove the 'criminal record clauses' from the LFA Statutes is pending determination before the Supreme Court.

LFA Legal Representative Jeke pointed out: "It is clear that the issues in the statutes are constitutional and are currently before the Supreme Court. So, the Civil Law Court cannot rule on them. His point is that he wants the court to remove that position from the guidelines, but the judge said he cannot do that because it is not within his purview."

"Every electoral process has rules and regulations. For example, if he is denied on that basis, he cannot come back here; only the Supreme Court can determine whether his constitutional rights were violated."

As the LFA prepares to proceed with its electoral process scheduled for April 18, 2026, many football stakeholders are now wondering whether Kouh's constitutional rights will align with the election guidelines under the LFA Statutes that remain untouched.

This is happening at a time when FIFA has warned Liberia of sanctions for perceived third-party or Civil Court interference in its football body elections dispute.

The Club Licensing Appeal Board on Tuesday, April 7, 2026, announced the dismissal of an appeal filed by Jubilee FC seeking to overturn the relegation imposed on it by the football body.

Backdrop of the Relegation

In April 2025, the Liberia Football Association relegated Jubilee FC to the Third Division despite the club's promotion from the Second to the First Division League, citing breach of league rules.

According to the LFA, the club submitted a fraudulent business registration document during the registration process for the 2024/2025 season. This, the LFA said, was discovered following a verification process.

The Football House stated that the club was initially fined $10,000 but failed to comply, which led to a further penalty of relegation.

Jubilee FC's Legal Fight Against the Relegation

Jubilee FC strongly objected to the decision, filing an initial appeal with the LFA Appeal Board. The club argued that its relegation was unjust and lacked due process.

However, the appeal did not succeed after a stalemate at the Appeal Board level, which by default upheld the LFA’s stance.

The club then sought further review from the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS), pushing to overturn the LFA's decision.

After a lengthy investigation, CAS ruled that the LFA temporarily reinstated Jubilee FC to the First Division. The Arbitration body referred the case to the LFA Club Licensing Appeal Board to allow due process and make a final determination.

Outcome of the Case by the LFA Club Licensing Appeal Board

After reviewing the case for some months, the LFA Appeal Board found that Jubilee FC indeed submitted falsified business registration document during the club licensing process.

The Board stated that the club was afforded due process, initially, through the time frame set for a fine for the reported violation.

The Appeal Board declared that the relegation imposed on Jubilee was a proportionate and necessary measure to maintain the integrity of Liberian football.

The statement issued on Tuesday read: "The Liberia Football Association (LFA) Club Licensing Appeal Board has dismissed the appeal filed by Jubilee FC, confirming the club's relegation to the 3rd division."

"This decision follows a directive from the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS), which had suspended the relegation pending final review. After examining the case, the Appeal Board found that Jubilee FC submitted falsified Business Registration documents during the licensing process."

"The Board concluded that the club was afforded due process and that relegation is a proportionate measure to protect the integrity of Liberian football."

According to the Liberia Football Association, the ruling marks the final step in the adjudication process, in line with CAS requirements.

This comes as a major blow for Jubilee FC, which was initially reinstated in the First Division. With this decision, the club will now descend to the third tier and will need to stand a tough test of time in order to find its way back to the top-flight league.

The leaked audio circulating on social media and in the possession of K-News Sports revealed a voice believed to be Kouh’s, in a telephone conversation indicating that the injunction on the FA election was made successful after seeking interference from the Vice President of Liberia, Jeremiah Koung.

The source of the recording remains anonymous. The recording alleges Kouh of disclosing that Presiding Judge Peter Gbeneweleh’s decision was influenced after placing a phone call to the Vice President, who then allegedly mandated the injunction.

The recording also claims Judge Gbeneweleh’s decision to issue a permanent injunction on the LFA’s April 18 Elective elective Congress was not finalized until after the external call was made.

“That identical injunction, the vice president himself told the people to go ahead with it,” the voice believed to be Cassell A. Kouh states in the recording.

Although Kouh, the president of FC Fassell and a presidential hopeful in the LFA election, has denied these claims, the leaked audio has raised serious questions about the court’s recent decision.

The Civil Law Court, in a writ dated April 2, 2026, and signed by Chief Clerk Victor Gailor, has ordered Kouh to show cause why he should not be held in contempt of court regarding the circulating audio on the social media.

The court believes the said audio if not justified could undermine the integrity of the judicial process. Court officials have warned that such actions, if proven, constitute a serious offense that could lead to imprisonment.

"You are commanded to summon the above-named Defendant, (Mr. Cassell Anthony Kouh), to appear before this Court on Monday, April 9, 2026, at 3:30PM to show cause, if any, why he should not be held in contempt of court for the social media recording in circulation", the writ signed Chief Clerk Victor Gailor mentioned.

Such a controversial audio surfaces at a time when FIFA has threatened sanctions against Liberia if there is any third-party interference in the local Football Association election dispute.

The LFA election dispute involves candidate eligibility rules. Presidential hopeful Cassell A. Kouh has challenged the LFA, claiming that the election guidelines violate his rights as a citizen.

Kouh’s eligibility is heavily contested under Article 58.1 of the LFA Statutes, which states that "The President, Vice Presidents, and Executive Committee members shall not have been found guilty of criminal offence."

Kouh argues that, despite a conviction for investment fraud in the United States, he served the penalty, and his rights should be restored and protected under Liberian law to participate in the elections.

The legal battle has resulted in an injunction on the FA elections petitioned by Kouh, which has sparked controversy following the leak of the audio alleging external influence on the process.

The World Football governing body warned that the legal dispute facing the Liberia Football Association's election should be withdrawn from ordinary court and addressed through appropriate sports arbitration channels.

FIFA's communication directed to the Liberia Football Association dated April 2, 2026, comes after the Civil Law Court of Liberia issued a permanent injunction on the pending elections of the FA.

This followed a petition filed by an embattled presidential aspirant in LFA pending elections, Cassell A. Kouh. Kouh has taken the LFA to civil court on several counts, including alleged violations of his rights to contest the election.

The contention stemmed from his conviction in the U.S. for a criminal offence involving an investment fraud. The LFA on said ground has challenged Kouh's eligibility in line with Article 58. 1 of its statutes.

Article 58. 1 of the LFA statutes states: "The President, Vice Presidents, and Executive Committee members shall not have been found guilty of criminal offence."

Cassell A. Kouh's legal team is seeking further interpretation of the statutes at the civil court, arguing that it runs contrary to the Liberian constitution, the superior law in the country.

With a permanent injunction issued by the court on all activities of the pending LFA April 18, 2026 Elective Congress until a final judgement is made, FIFA has described the move as a third-party interference and said it is prohibited under its global football statutes.

The World Football governing body cites Article 14 part 1 (0) and Article 19 part 1 of its Statutes, stating that all members association including the LFA are required to manage their affairs independently, without undue influence from third parties.

However, FIFA has mandated the Liberia Football Association to provide a detailed report on the situation regarding means to find a resolution in the next 7 seven days.

The global football body in the communication signed by its Chief Member Association Officer, Elkhan Mammadov, warned that failure to resolve the dispute appropriately per the ultimatum, could result in suspension of Liberia's membership.

Other penalties listed by FIFA include sanctions from participating in international competitions, pause of financial support, and prohibition of other member associations from maintaining sporting contact with the LFA.

"In this regard, we kindly request that you provide us, no later than 9 April 2026, with a detailed update on the measures taken to address the situation and to ensure compliance with the above-mentioned obligations."

"Should the situation remain unresolved within the aforementioned deadline, we will be compelled to submit this matter to the competent FIFA bodies, for consideration and decision, which could lead to the suspension of the LFA in accordance with the FIFA Statutes", the communication stated.

Meanwhile, FIFA has urged all stakeholders and aggrieved parties in the LFA pending elections to adhere to its statues and the laws governing the local football house to maintain the integrity of the sport.

"We hereby formally request that the LFA, and all relevant stakeholders take immediate and concrete steps to ensure full compliance with the FIFA Statutes and the LFA Statutes to ensure that the LFA is able to manage its affairs independently and without undue influence from third parties".

"Taking all necessary measures to ensure that football-related disputes are handled exclusively within the framework of the dispute resolution mechanisms provided for under the applicable football regulations. Refraining from any further actions that may result in or reinforce the involvement of ordinary courts in matters relating to the internal governance and electoral process of the LFA", the World Football body highlighted.

His tragic death has sparked emotional reactions on social media, with many expressing condolences to the club and the bereaved family.

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) revoked Senegal's 2025 AFCON championship title earlier this month and awarded it to Morocco. 

This followed a ruling by the CAF Appeal Board on the brief walkout action by the Senegalese in the AFCON final against Morocco which they won 1-0.

The ruling was based on complaints filed by Morocco regarding Senegal's conduct in the final. CAF said Senegal's action breached Article 84 of its Regulations governing the Africa Cup of Nations.

As such, the football governing body declared that Senegal thereby forfeited the match by 3-0 and that Morocco is the new champion.

However, Senegal has opposed CAF's decision, with the latest parade of the trophy in their possession coming as a total defiance to relinquish the crown.

They beat Peru 2-0 in the friendly in Paris, France, which was their first encounter since the 2025 AFCON final.

Before the match against Peru, captain Kalidou Koulibaly and his teammates entered the pitch with the AFCON trophy for a lap of honour, before Koulibaly and goalkeeper Edouard Mendy went up to the stadium's presidential box to place the trophy there.

The injunction issued on Tuesday, March 24, was requested by embattled presidential aspirant Cassell A. Kouh through his legal team. This comes barely a week when the court issued and lifted a temporary injunction on the very election activities.

Kouh's legal team petitioned the court to halt all activities of the FA electoral process until a ruling is made to determine his (Cassell A. Kouh) fate to contest.

Following arguments between the legal team representing Cassell A. Kouh and the legal representatives of the LFA, presiding Judge Peter Gbeneweleh moved to issue an injunction on the Football House pending April 18 elections.

The plaintiff, Kouh's legal camp, now argues that the set April 18 election may not proceed as scheduled due to the timing of the injunction, which comes less than 30 days before the elections.

Attorney Joseph Howe, a member of Kouh's team, emphasized that there could be a new date for the elections to fit a 30-day notice period for registration, stating that no law in the bailiwick of the country supersedes the Liberian constitution.

"The law says the date for the election should be 30 days after the deadline for registration. So, the April 18 date is not possible. The judge agreed with us. We tell the Court that before you determine the substantive matter, let the election process stop," Howe stated.

Kouh's eligibility to contention stemmed from his conviction for investment fraud in the United States in 2017.

This is challenged by the Football House under Article 58.1 of its Statutes, which states that "The President, Vice Presidents, and Executive Committee members shall not have been found guilty of criminal offence."

Kouh has accused the election committee of the LFA of implementing guidelines he believes are inconsistent with the statutes of the football body, claiming they violate his rights.

He alleged that the election guidelines are biased regarding the eligibility criteria to prevent him from running. He has since taken the LFA to civil court to seek further interpretation of the statutes.

Kouh's legal team maintains that his criminal record should not bar him from contesting. They argue that Article 58.1 of the LFA Statutes contravenes Article 2 and Article 21(j) of the Liberian Constitution.

Article 2 of the Liberian Constitution establishes it as the supreme and fundamental law of the country, binding all authorities and individuals.

Article 21(j) mandates the automatic restoration of civil rights and liberties to anyone convicted of a crime after serving their sentence, satisfying penalties, or receiving a presidential pardon.

The plaintiff's side mentioned that Kouh has served his penalty for the crime committed in the U.S., and he should be protected under the Liberian law to contest the LFA elections.

Meanwhile, the Liberia Football Association's defense lawyers contend that football matters are addressed through the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) and not a civil courtroom, calling for the dismissal of Kouh's case.

The defense team also noted that Cassell A. Kouh, as a former Vice President, helped shape Article 58.1 of the LFA statutes, which bans candidates with criminal records from contesting any elected positions.

With an injunction in place on the elections, the court is expected to hear the eligibility case involving Kouh and the FA in the coming days. This will determine whether Kouh is eligible to run in the body's elections.

The legal battle unfolds at a time when FIFA has warned that any court interference that overturns the statutes of the local football body could risk Liberia being suspended from international competitions.

The resolution was signed by club Presidents, Vice Presidents, Secretary Generals, officials, and Associations from across the Men's First and Second and Upper Women's Divisions as well as accredited associations of the Liberia Football Association.

The LFA Elective Congress is scheduled for April 18, 2026, in Harper, Maryland County, where stakeholders go to elect a new crop of officials, including President, Vice President and Executive Committee members.

Reading their resolution in a Press Conference on Monday, March 23, 2026, the stakeholders disclosed that their decision to support Raji for a Third Term is based on what they described as a massive development in football nationwide.

They reference the construction of mini pitches, an increase in club subvention and cash prizes for top-flight league winners and decentralization of grassroots football among others under the leadership of the incumbent President.

The statement was read by Upper Women's League side Small Town FC Vice President Ansu Dulley on behalf of the group: "Thirty delegates of said 50 voting delegates, representing a clear decisive majority, of the LFA Congress have convened to review the progress of football governance in Liberia".

"Whereas President Mustard Raji has demonstrated superior leadership since 2018, overseeing the transformation of football across all levels including the construction of state-of-the-art LFA Headquarters, decentralization of football across several counties".

"Whereas the current administration has significantly increased the financial subvention to clubs from US$3,937 Dollars to US$7,500 Dollars and prize money from national division where Women's Upper League champions now received US$25,000, Second Division now US$10,000, First Division champions now receive US$30,000".

"We thereby reaffirmed our unconditional support for Mustapha Raji's candidacy for the third term and in the upcoming April 18, 2026 Elective Congress in Harper, Maryland County".

Clubs and associations that signed the resolution include:

Paynesville FC, LISCR FC, Wein Town FC, LIFRA, Blackman Warriors, Mighty Barrolle SA, Real, Muja FC, LIFOCA, Watanga FC, LONA, Tap Tap FC, LPRC Oilers, Borough FC, Downtown FC, Gedeh FC, Gardnerville FC, Cece United FA, Freeport FC PAG FC, Earth Angels FC, ISSA FC, Discoveries FC, Margibi FC, LISMA, Falconets FC, Small Town FC, Ravia Angels FC, Bushrod Queens FC, District 17 FC, and Golden Dream FC.

Observers say the number constitutes about two-third of the eligible voters, but warned that resolution is not guaranteed until it is transformed into votes. The Football House elections recognize fifty eligible from across the Men's First and Second and Upper Women's League, as well as accredited associations. The elections are won on a simple majority basis.

Meanwhile, Incumbent President Mustapha Raji third term bid is heavily being opposed by an aspirant, Cassell Anthony Kouh. Kouh, President of First Division Club Fassell, has repeatedly vowed to unseat Raji although he is still facing contention over his eligibility to contest.

The global football governing body warned that Liberia, as a member nation, could face serious consequences—including possible suspension from international football—if its football statutes are undermined by court interference.

FIFA's caution followed a communication from the Liberia Football Association about the ongoing developments ahead of its April 18, 2026, Elective Congress.

The LFA elections are embroiled in a legal battle over candidates’ eligibility, with a Civil Law Court of Montserrado County initially issuing an injunction on the election as prayed for by a presidential hopeful Cassell Kuoh.

Kouh who is also the President of First Division League Club Fassell, has heavily challenged the election process, citing alleged irregularities in the election guidelines in line with Article 58.1 of the LFA statutes. 

The Liberia Football Association's Statutes, Chapter 25, Article 58.1, states that "The President, Vice Presidents, and Executive Committee members shall not have been found guilty of criminal offence."

Kuoh's eligibility dispute revolves around his 2017 conviction for investment fraud in the United States. He claims the election committee is focused on a specific offense and is attempting to prevent him from running.

Kuoh considers this a violation of his rights and has taken the LFA to court on multiple counts. These developments have created uncertainty about the status of the LFA election scheduled for April 18, 2026.

Amidst the looming legal conflict over the Liberia Football Association’s elections, FIFA, in a communication dated March 22, 2026, stated: "We would also like to draw your attention to the corresponding provisions contained in the LFA Statutes (2018 edition)."

"In particular, Articles 18.3(J) and 19 of the LFA Statutes require Members to adopt a statutory clause specifying that any dispute requiring arbitration and relating to the statutes, regulations, directives and decisions of FIFA, CAF, WAFU or the LFA shall come solely under the jurisdiction of the appropriate arbitration tribunal."

"Any recourse to ordinary courts is strictly prohibited, and any breach of this obligation may result in the sanctions provided for in the LFA Statutes."

While recognizing the authority of national courts, FIFA emphasized that football governance operates within a distinct legal system.

The organization stressed that the Liberia Football Association is bound by international statutes that prioritize arbitration over litigation in settling internal disputes.

Central to FIFA’s warning is Article 51 of its statutes, which explicitly bans member associations and their affiliates from taking football-related disputes to ordinary courts unless specifically permitted. These issues should instead be handled through arbitration mechanisms established in football’s regulatory framework.

This principle is not new. Historically, FIFA has enforced strict adherence to its autonomy, suspending countries like Nigeria and Kuwait in recent years over government or judicial interference, setting a precedent that influences Liberia’s current situation.

As tensions rise, FIFA urges all parties involved to respect both international and local football statutes and to resolve grievances through established sports arbitration systems.

Weah stated that the decision, if not carefully reviewed, could undermine the fairness and integrity of football in Africa. 

The African football icon argued that there is no sporting justification on the part of CAF to nullify a match that was completed according to the referee’s authority and the Laws of the Game.

The Liberian international George Weah cited Law 5 of the Laws of the Game of Football, which also applies to CAF regulations, and stated that the result obtained on the pitch between Senegal and Morocco should have stood as the final score.

Law 5 of the Laws of the Game (Football) establishes the referee as the ultimate authority on the field, responsible for enforcing rules, controlling the match, and making final decisions on facts connected to play.

Weah said the referee, as the authority of the match, allowed the game to proceed after Senegal's brief walkout. According to him, once the score was final, the action should have been addressed with sanctions, not a penalty of forfeiture.

"This decision has further scarred and blemished African football, undermining confidence in the fairness, consistency, and integrity of football on the continent".

"Once play is allowed to continue and the match is completed, the result obtained on the field must stand. Under the applicable rules of the Confederation of African Football (CAF), match officials have full authority during the game", he declared on Thursday, March 19, in a social media post.

Senegal defeated Morocco 1-0 in the 2025 AFCON final to lift the trophy. CAF on Tuesday, March 17, announced that Senegal has been stripped of the AFCON title and that Morocco is the new winner.

The African football governing body stated that the decision followed a thorough review into a protest filed by Morocco regarding the Senegalese conduct during the final, including their walkout action.

CAF, through its Appeal Board, in a statement said the decision to award Morocco the title was made in line with Article 84 of the Regulations of the CAF Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON). The ruling which favored Morocco rewarded them 3 goals and declared Senegal to have forfeited the match.

However, George Weah, who also rose to the highest seat in his country, Liberia, as President, maintained that "Football must be decided on the pitch, not re-decided after the final whistle".

He also openly expressed his support for Senegal as they seek to appeal CAF's decision to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS).

“The decision is unfair, unprecedented, and unacceptable,” the Senegalese Football Federation declared, insisting that the outcome of the final was legitimately earned on the pitch and should not be erased by administrative action.

Defending its position, the federation emphasized its next course of action, stating, “To defend its rights and the interests of Senegalese football, the Federation will, as soon as possible, initiate an appeal procedure before the Court of Arbitration for Sport.” The planned move to the Court of Arbitration for Sport sets the stage for a high-profile legal battle.

Senegal maintains that despite the brief disruption during the final, its players returned to the field, completed the match, and secured victory in extra time an effort the federation believes should stand as the final and binding result of the contest.

CAF, however, ruled otherwise after reviewing a protest filed by Morocco, declaring Senegal to have forfeited the match and awarding a 3-0 victory to its opponent. The Confederation of African Football said the decision was in line with its regulations, a justification Senegal strongly disputes.

Reaffirming its stance, the Senegalese Football Federation stressed, “We remain committed to the values of integrity and sporting justice and will keep the public informed of any developments.” As the dispute escalates, Senegal’s challenge now shifts to the global stage, where the final verdict could redefine the outcome of one of Africa’s most controversial football finals.

Kouh who has faced heavy contention over his eligibility to contest in pending elections claimed irregularities in the FA electoral process and requested an injunction from the Court, while calling for an interpretation of specific guidelines regarding candidates' eligibility in the LFA Statutes.

The First Division Football Club Fassell's President declined to openly state the irregularities he claimed in the electoral process. Cassell Kuoh's eligibility contention is tied around his conviction for investment fraud in the United States back in 2017.

Since declaring his intention to contest the LFA Presidency, many football stakeholders have expressed strong opposition, saying his participation in the elective congress could violate statutes of the FA which require candidates to be clear of criminal records.

The Liberia Football Association's Statutes; Chapter 25, Article 58.1 states that "The President, Vice Presidents and Executive Committee members shall not have been found guilty of criminal offence".

But, with the appeal filed by Cassell Kuoh for further interpretation of clauses in the statutes regarding candidates' eligibility and guidelines set by the FA Elections Committee, it has opened doors for legal debate to determine his fate of participating in the elections.

As an injunction stands in, the court has petitioned the LFA Elections Committee and members of the LFA Executive Committee as respondents in a declaratory hearing. Among those listed are LFA President Mustapha Raji, along with officials including Meo Beyan, Robert Johnson, and Ibrahim Sheriff.

In the writ issued by the court on March 10, 2026, the respondents have been ordered to temporarily refrain from conducting any further activities related to the LFA elections until the court hears and decides the matter.

Meanwhile, Kouh, a strong opposition to the incumbent President Mustapha Raji, has repeatedly assured his supporters that he would be placed on the ballot in the LFA's April 18, 2026, elective congress and that there would be no white ballot for Raji.

"I want to make it categorically clear today, that Mustapha Raji whether the elections are going to be in your bedroom, you are going to face a candidate, and that candidate is Cassell Kuoh".

"My legal team and I found a lot of irregularities in the guidelines, and we decided to address them with immediate effect by placing an injunction on the current LFA guidelines".

"To make sure, we sort out those irregularities and create an avenue of fairness. So, this election cannot be with a contender Mustard Raji", Cassell Kuoh stated in a recent press conference.

The LFA on Thursday, January 8, 2026, sanctioned Miss. Urey after findings into investigation linked her to match manipulation during the 2024/2025 season between first division league clubs Shaita FC VS Paynesville FC and Freeport FC VS Paynesville FC.

The controversy sparked after relegation-threatened Shaita FC shockingly defeated in-formed Paynesville FC 7-0 during the latter stage of the league season. The controversy heightened when Paynesville FC recalibrated to Freeport FC 3-2, raising concerns about match fixing.

Allegations emerged that the female football stakeholder, Benetta Urey, financially influenced players of Paynesville FC to lose bigly against her interest club Shaita FC to redeem goals against and help save the team from facing relegation; though they succumbed at the end of the season.

Many held the view that given Shaita FC's poor performance, it was impossible for the club to defeat in-formed Paynesville FC 7 goals to 0. This promoted months of investigation, which came to a final conclusion on Thursday, January 8, 2026.

The Liberia Football Association through its Grievance and Disciplinary Committee found the Shaita Angels President liable of the match fixing allegations and said the actions violated Part I, Chapter 2 (20)(1&3) of the FIFA Disciplinary Code on Manipulation of football matches and competitions.

According to the football body, the violation warranted her five-year ban from all football-related activities including administrative, sports, and any other and barred from entering any stadium hosting football activities. In the same vein, a Paynesville FC player Eugene Swen was also banned from all football-related activities for a period of two years.

But reacting to her sanction, Benetta Urey denied any involvement in match manipulation between Shaita FC VS Paynesville FC or Freeport FC VS Paynesville FC.

The Shaita Angels President said the LFA's sanction lacks merit, and described it as a politically motivated move to silence her critical stance against the leadership of Mustapha Raji at Liberia Football Association.

Miss Urey who took to her personal Facebook handle, claimed that the investigation indicting her was based on speculation. She stated that her open support towards Cassell Kuoh, a presidential hope in the upcoming LFA Congress, has made her a target under the Raji's administration.

Incumbent President Mustapha Raji has announced his decision to seek a third-term, and opposition figure Cassell Kuoh has vowed to challenge Raji's re-election. Benetta Urey in recent times has been a fierce critic of Raji's leadership.

As a stakeholder, Miss Urey has repeatedly vowed to oppose Raji's third-term bid, citing slow pace of football development under the current regime; even though the LFA has boasted of making gains.

With less than four months to the LFA 2926 Congress, she believes her ban is an intimidation towards opposition voices in the football community.

"The Liberia Football Association Grievance and Disciplinary Committee has issued a claim alleging my involvement in match manipulation. I categorically reject and denounce this claim as false, misleading, and politically motivated".

"This baseless accusation is clearly intended to target me because of my open support for Cassell A. Kuoh’s presidential bid. The so‑called ban is founded on mere speculation and gossip, with no proof, no evidence, and not a single individual coming forward to claim that I ever gave them money", she stated.

Meanwhile, Miss. Urey has insisted to appeal the decision of the Grievances and Disciplinary committee of the Liberia Football Association, regarding her sanction in the soonest possible time. 

"I will appeal this decision and pursue all necessary legal actions to defend my integrity and the reputation of all opposition team leaders as we have become a constant target by this current football government", Benetta Urey noted.

Amorim joined Manchester and Manchester United in November 2024 and led the team to a UEFA Europa League Final in Bilbao in May.

In a hearing on Friday, January 2, 2026, the Organizing Committee of the tournament overturned the recent ruling by the Appeal's Board which ordered a rematch between Grand Cape Mount and Lofa counties to resolve their disputed final group stage match.

The Committee instead welcomed the initial ruling by the Grievances and Ethics Committee awarding 3 points and 2 goals to Grand Cape Mount County, and disqualifying Lofa County for reportedly breaching the tournament's standing rules on players' eligibility.

Grand Cape Mount County had filed a protest accusing Lofa County of fielding Four First Division players in their 3-1 win on Sunday, December 21, 2025 against them. After a thorough investigation by the Grievances and Ethics Committee, Lofa County was held liable, and forfeited the points to Grand Cape Mount.

The Grievances and Ethics Committee said the action was in violation of Article 11 of the players' eligibility rules, which permits a county to register and use at most three First Division players at any given time on the pitch.

The initial ruling favored Grand Cape Mount, but Lofa County immediately took an exception, filing a request for review of the Grievances and Ethics Committee's decision at the Appeal Board.

The Appeal Board reversed the initial ruling, stating that the fielding of players Francis Doe and Jeremiah Johnson by Lofa County in question as First Division players, was the fault of the Liberia Football Association's and the Ministry of Youth and Sports' vetting process.

The Appeal Board suspended the players, but said the situation cannot result in Lofa County disqualification, a ruling that reinstated hope for Lofa County and fueled disappointment in Grand Cape Mount County. As a result, the Board ordered a reply of the disputed match.

Grand Cape Mount County opposed the Appeal Board's ruling, seeking clarification from the general organizing committee of the tournament.

The clarification hearing was attended by both counties' legal teams at the Ministry of Youth and Sports at the SKD Sports Complex in Paynesville City.

The hearing that lasted for hours, saw Grand Cape Mount representatives coming out with high energy after the initial ruling that favored them was regranted.

Organizing Committee in the clarification hearing states: "The transfers of players Jeremiah Johnson and Francis Doe were conducted outside the established procedures".

"Article 11 section 13.13 of the rules and regulations clearly states that 3 players from the First Division and 3 players from the Second Division leagues are allowed to participate on each team in the 2025/2026 National County Sports Meet. And that the penalty for this violation is forfeiture of the match".

"Based on the established violation, the Organizing Committee, has therefore resolved to award the three points to Grand Cape Mount County and that Lofa County forfeit the points".

Meanwhile, Grand Cape Mount's Football team has advanced and will face Grand Kru in its first round-robin quarterfinal match on Sunday, January 4, 2026. They are paired in Group B with Grand Kru, Margibi and Montserrado counties.

The quarterfinals of the 2025/2026 National County Sports Meet will kicked off Saturday, January 3, 2026. The actions will begin with Kickball matches at the SKD Sports Complex. At 1:00PM, River Gee VS Grand Cape Mount. At 2:00PM, Gbapolu VS Margibi. The Football matches will feature Bong VS Nimba at 4:PM and River Gee VS Grand Bassa at 6:00PM.

The National County Sports Meet is an annual sports tournament organized by the Ministry of Youth and Sports. It features the fifteenth political sub-divisions of Liberia to compete in football, kickball and other disciplines.

The Appeal Board on Wednesday, December 31, 2025 handed down its verdict, reversing the disqualification of Lofa County over alleged breach of players' eligibility and ordering a replay of the disputed match against Grand Cape Mount County.

Initially, the Grievances and Ethics Committee disqualified Lofa County following an investigation into a protest filed by Grand Cape Mount alleging that Lofa fielded Four First Division players in their 3-1 against them (Grand Cape Mount) in the group stage.

The initial ruling on Monday, December 29, 2025 awarded Grand Cape Mount three points and two goals, advancing them to the quarter-finals, while Lofa County who had already qualified for the next stage forfeited the crucial points and faced elimination from the tournament.

The Grievances and Ethics Committee referenced its decision to Article 11 of the tournament’s standing rules on player eligibility, which allows a county to field a maximum of three first-division players at any given time during the game.

Grand Cape Mount in their protest accused Lofa of registering players Francis Doe and Jeremiah Johnson outside their division as first league players.

The County noted that the players were instead registered under Third Division slots, rising Lofa County's number of First Division players to four in breach of the permitted three, something which the committee's investigation held Lofa County liable for.

However, Lofa County immediately appealed the decision at the Appeal Board, arguing that Grand Cape Mount County failed to file its protest within the stipulated time and that the Grievances and Ethics Committee did not observe due process.

Lofa's appeal also noted that officials from the clubs involved in the transfers of players Francis Doe and Jeremiah Johnson were not adequately consulted to provide the status of the players' transfers.

Meanwhile, after a thorough review, the Appeal Board ruled that the eligibility issues surrounding the two players were the faults of the Liberia Football Association and Ministry of Youth and Sports before the kickoff of the tournament. 

As a result, the Board stated that the two players will be suspended, but their situation does not warrant the disqualification of Lofa County. The Board determined that Grand Cape Mount failed to complete their protest against Lofa in the stipulated time.

The Appeal Board, the highest decision-making body surrounding conflicts in the tournament, at the same time instructed the organizing committee to schedule a replay match between both counties, canceling the initial score.

In its ruling, the Appeal Board stated: “The earlier result from the previous match between Lofa and Grand Cape Mount is hereby declared null and void. The two players in question are suspended from the tournament, and Lofa County is granted the opportunity to replace them.”

The replay match will be held on a date and time to be announced by the Organizing Committee of the National County Sports Meet.

Both Lofa and Grand Cape Mount counties will now compete for the final qualifying spot in Group C.

A victory for either team will secure qualification for the quarter-finals alongside Grand Bassa County.

The 2025/2026 National County Sports Meet has already reached the quarter-final stage. Eight counties will compete in the football and kickball categories respectively.

The National County Sports Meet is an annual tournament hosted by the Ministry of Youth and Sports, and is regarded as Liberia’s biggest sporting festival.

Cabot’s comments came shortly after Pogba was honored following his return to professional football after a lengthy suspension related to a doping case. The anniversary celebration featured friendly football matches among eight teams, with the host , Zorb Social Athletic Club losing the trophy to FOFA Old-timers in a 1-0 defeat in what football enthusiastics described as a highly competitive  match.

The daylong event was attended by officials from the Ministry of Youth and Sports, and veteran athletes, all of whom lauded the Zorb Social Athletic Club's efforts in promoting veteran football.

Zorb's anniversary serves as a testament to the power of sports in bringing people together and fostering unity in Liberia as the country continues to rebuild its sports sector. The anniversary serves as a reminder of the critical role veteran sports organizations play in shaping Liberia's sporting future 

John Weah shocked spectators with his 6th round first finish, after stumbling in the early rounds. The "Gentle Giant" piled different weights from 300kg to 500+kg, in the great showdown, edging the defining champion and other closed rivals in an average pound lifted.

Weah's triumph marked his first National Heavyweight Championship in his professional career. He outshone notable names in the weight-lifting sport, including Thomas S. Benjamin "No Fear", Yusufu Kroma, "Lib Hulk", Amos N. Kamara "Pipeline Hulk", and Prince Kaydee "Sapo Giant".

Many predicted that it would have been a two-horse race between the No Fear and Sapo Giant, based on their showmanship and rivalry in recent months. However, the expectations proved otherwise on the day of the highly anticipated grand final.

The fines ranged from US$5,000 each for Lofa and Gbarpolu, and US$1,500 for River Cess. The disciplinary action also includes the suspension of 7 officials (for 5 years) and 17 kickball players (for 3 years) from Lofa County, as well as the suspension of 3 kickball players (for 2 years) from River Cess County.

According to the Ministry, the three counties were held liable for the disruption of matches and attacks on match officials following a thorough investigation of incidents that occurred in their final group stage matches.

It was reported that players of the Lofa County Kickball team physically attacked match officials after their 0-0 draw against Grand Cape Mount County on Sunday, December 21, 2025, at the SKD Sports Complex.

The tension erupted after the Lofa County Kickball Team failed to collect a compulsory win against their opponents, which led to their elimination from the tournament on the final matchday in Group C.

On the other hand, River Cess and Gbarpolu counties were tied to match disruptions. The Ministry's investigation found River Cess liable for disrupting the final Group A Kickball match vs. Grand Kru.

The report said, players of River Cess were seen assaulting referees at the Martha Tubman Sports Pitch in Harper City, Maryland County.

Gbarpolu's fines followed disruptions of the game between group members Montserrado and Bong Counties by people believed to be their supporters.

It was reported that stones were thrown at the Bopolu Sports Pitch by spectators who speculated match fixing between Montserrado and Bong Counties. The action resulted in a premature cut-off and suspicion of the last Group D encounter.

Imposing the fines on Tuesday, December 23, 2025, the Youth and Sports Minister, Jerror Cole Bangalu, said the three counties' actions breached section 24.3 of the 2025 National County Sports Meet.

Minister Bangalu quoted: "Any county player(s) caught fighting within the game vicinity before; during; and immediately after the game shall be suspended and fined as deem necessary by the organizing committee of the NCSM".

He said the National County Sports Meet is an arena of sports for unity, respect and fair play. Minster Bangalu stated that the Ministry will not relent to enforce the rules and regulations governing the competition.

"The Ministry stands resolute and unyielding in its commitment to uphold transparency, justice, and fair play across all sporting activities under our jurisdiction", said Minister Jerror Cole Bangalu.

The last time a substitute score in an AFCON opening match was 2010 in Angola, when Seydou Keita and Mustapha Yatabaré came off the bench to score for Mali against the hosts Angola.

Weeks after their elimination from the African qualifiers, Nigeria has officially petitioned FIFA, protesting DR. Congo's victory over them.

The Nigeria Football Federation has complained that DR. fielded ineligible players against them in their 4-3 win during the final African play-offs qualifiers match in November 2025.

Nigeria and the DR Congo drew 1-1 on the field of play in Morocco, before going into a penalty shootout, where the Congolese triumphed 4-3. Nigeria has argued that DR. Congo fielded about six players who face identity issues.

They claimed that the players in question hold dual citizenship and were ineligible to play for the country. Research shows that DR. Congo does not recognize dual nationality. The issues have birthed another lifeline for Nigeria.

River Gee County began its campaign in the 2026/2026 National County Sports Meet on an impressive note. The county kicked off the tournament with stunning victories over River Cess County.

They secured a 2-0 win in football and triumphed 4-0 in Kickball over their fellow Southerners, River Cess County, before extending their dominance against Maryland County on Wednesday, December 17, on matchday three.

Sports analysts say the club's disappointing start to the 2025/2026 season may be due to the time taken off to argue its initial relegation to the Third Division League by the Liberia Football Association.

With Emmanuel Chayee now leading the way, Liberia’s entry into the international pickle-ball competition scene marks a new era of opportunity for the nation’s young athletes.

Speaking on a local sports program over the weekend, Raji said the LFA has faced challenges in funding international fixtures for the senior national team, the Lone Star.

“We want to participate in these international friendlies to give the technical staff the chance to assess the players and get the best out of those who will be coming. We also want to know the level of cohesion between the players,” Raji said.

He further stressed that November is the only opportunity Liberia has this year to participate in international friendlies. He added that missing this window would make it difficult to meet fans’ expectations in upcoming matches.

The national team recently arrived in Casablanca, Morocco, to face Guinea on November 15, 2O25 a trip made possible by the LFA Executive Committee negotiating with travel agencies for flexible payment plans.

Raji: “We have gone further to commence negotiations with travel agencies that will be willing to provide us tickets on credit, where we will create payment plans to pay them back”.

However, he noted that the delegation will not include the normal team delegation due to financial constraints.

Raji also revealed that the LFA plans to send the national school football team abroad later this month, again without additional support from the Ministry of Youth and Sports.

Football enthusiasts are optimistic that the allocation would increase following the legislative review process. However, some remain skeptical that the Legislative debates could also result in cuts to the proposed amount.

The 2026 draft national budget, estimated at US$1.2 billion, represents a major boost from US$880 million in 2025, a drive which has made a trickle-down impact on the national football budget.

Meanwhile, Lone Star continues to face mounting challenges stemming from financial constraints that have hampered performances on the international stage.

LFA President Raji has often disclosed that the national teams, especially the Men’s Senior National Team, owe substantial debts to various airlines and hotels. These he said continue to embarrass camping activities and timely arrival of the national teams to honor international matches.

According to Raji, the payment of players’ appearance fees and honoring international friendlies to improve the national teams' both male and female performance remain difficult due to inadequate funding.

However, many recommend that while the proposed US$1 million still falls short of the LFA’s US$5 million annual development target, the government should muster the courage to scale up its support in line with the association’s long-term football development plan.

The LBA’s decision comes after a comprehensive review of recent match incidents in the 2025 National Basketball League, holding the clubs accountable for violating fundamental league standards, including fair play, good sportsmanship, and unacceptable conduct on the court.

K-News Sports Desk was informed that the LBA's disciplinary actions follow the forfeiture of game 4 by the NPA Pythons in the best-of-five grand finals series of the 2025 First Division League championship.

Invincible Shooters and T. S. Warriors are facing a two-season suspension for their involvement in a serious altercation that occurred on the court during an official Second Division league match this season. This incident created an atmosphere of instability at the Samuel Kanyon Doe Basketball Court in Paynesville City.

In response to the incidents, the LBA announced on Wednesday, November 5, 2025, that NPA Pythons is suspended for one season, while Invincible Shooters and T. S. Warriors will face a season-long suspension.

The LBA President, Abraham Samukai, stated that NPA Pythons' failure to justify their reasons for forfeiting a crucial grand final fixture, which led to an early conclusion of the league, warrants a suspension of all national basketball activities for an entire season.

Samukai stated that although the NPA Pythons’ rival, LPRC Oilers, were crowned champions after the boycott, the Pythons' actions did not reflect good sportsmanship and undermined the principle of fair play in sports.

"On October 12, 2025, NPA Pythons failed to honor their Fourth game in the Best-of-Five Finals Series of the 2025 First Division League against the LPRC Oilers. This action was deemed unprofessional, inappropriate, and contrary to the standards, ethics, and regulations governing the Association", Abraham Samukai stated.

The LBA has emphasized that the altercation between the T.S. Warriors and the Invincible Shooters caused property damage and created chaos among spectators. This incident is a violation of the code of conduct that governs clubs, players, and officials.

According to Samukai, the LBA's Executive Committee determined that both teams had acted in violation of Section 17 of its Constitution, which calls for the suspension or expulsion of clubs, players, or officials. He added that the decision for a two-season suspension was made in accordance with the disciplinary code.

The suspended clubs have not yet made any official statements concerning the LBA's decision. The suspension of Invincible Shooters and T.S. Warriors is a significant setback, as both clubs were already fully prepared for the Second Division Championship.

The club's decision follows a string of poor performances, securing only one win and one draw in their last nine matches, which has led to frustration among supporters and raised concerns about the team's future direction.

The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS), the highest authority for resolving legal disputes in sports, issued its ruling in the LFA-Jubilee dispute on Friday, October 31, 2025. The court ordered the club to be reinstated while all internal due process mechanisms are followed to determine the case's outcome.

The ruling highlighted procedural errors in the LFA's decision to relegate the club to the Third Division due to regulatory violations.

CAS contended that Jubilee Football Club was denied due process and that the FA made its decision outside the appropriate committee.

The LFA Media Manager, Anthony Kokoi, informed K-News Sports Desk on Saturday, November 1, 2025, that the Football House has no intention of ignoring the CAS partial ruling regarding the ongoing relegation dispute.

Mr. Kokoi stated that Jubilee Football Club has been given ten days to complete its player registration process with FIFA's consent.

Kokoi stated that the LFA will communicate with FIFA to open the registration system, allowing the club to register its players within the next ten days, as they have been provisionally reinstated to the First Division.

The relegation dispute originated in April 2025 when the LFA fined Jubilee FC US$10,000 for allegedly submitting a falsified business registration document during the club registration process in the 2024/2025 league season.

Jubilee's failure to comply with the fine within the specified timeframe led to the Football House taking action to relegate the club from the second division to the third division, even though they had already secured a place in the First Division League.

Jubilee FC appealed the decision to the LFA Appeal Board, but the case faced a setback due to a stalemate in the voting process.

This led to Jubilee's appeal to CAS. The club contends that it was denied due process and was not given enough time to pay the fine.

The CAS verdict came after months of investigations and proceedings, which required the club to be provisionally reinstated until the relegation decision was further reviewed by the Club Licensing Appeal Board of the LFA.

Jubilee FC needs to strengthen its preparations as it enters the top-flight league, which a soccer pundit claims was insufficient for the season.

The club will begin anew after three rounds in the 2025/2026 season, increasing the total number of teams in the LFA First Division to 15.
