Sanctioned Nathaniel McGill $4M UBA Account Blocked in Ghana- Int’l Source

News gathered by k-news from Accra, Ghana says the private account of US-Sanctioned, suspended Minister of State for Presidential Affairs, Nathaniel McGill at United Bank for Africa (UBA) in Accra, Ghana containing over Four Million United States Dollars has been allegedly blocked based on instructions from the sanctions committee.

Source in Accra, speaking via mobile said the order was issued to the bank from the United States, and to other banking institutions where McGill may have deposited his money- this is a result of the immediate enforcement of the sanctions order.

This week, the United States imposed sanctions on three Liberian government officials, including President George Weah’s chief of staff, for what it says is their ongoing involvement in public corruption, the U.S. Treasury Department said on Monday.

Under the sanctions, all property and interests in property of McGill and the other two  officials that are in the United States must be blocked and reported to Treasury, while people who engage in transactions with the officials may be subject to sanctions themselves, the statement said.

“Through their corruption these officials have undermined democracy in Liberia for their own personal benefit,” Brian Nelson, Treasury’s undersecretary for terrorism and financial intelligence, said in a statement.

Meanwhile, in reaction, the suspended minster said he doesn’t have account with UBA in Ghana. According to him, he’s open to audit.
