University of Liberia Faculty Association Condemns “Unsolicited Attacks” on Finance Minister’s Special Aid, Aloysious Howe

The University of Liberia Faculty Association (ULFA) has condemned an attack on the Special Aide to Finance Minister Samuel Tweah, Aloysius Howe on the Capitol Hill Campus of the University of Liberia.

The Association also called on the Administration of the University of Liberia to institute an immediate investigation into the recently reported attack on Mr. Aloysius Howe and others.

ULFA in a press release issued on March 8, 2023, stressed that it is wary of unsolicited attacks on faculty, public officials, students, and visitors alike by rampaging students on the campuses of the University of Liberia.

“ULFA condemned in the strongest terms the alleged acts inflicted on Mr. Howe by some students believed to be members of the Students Unification Party,” ULFA stated.

According to the teachers’ group, violence is never a solution to any problem and should never be a hallmark of students
who are groomed to become future leaders of the country.

On Tuesday, some members of the campus-based Students Unification Party were seen in a video circulating on social media booing Aloysius Howe, the Special Aide to the Minister of Finance and Development Planning, Samuel Tweah.

The special assistant to Finance Minister Samuel Tweah was also allegedly attacked by members of the Student Unification Party (SUP), leaving him with injuries. The action leading to his attack has not been established, but the students accused Aloysius Howe of being corrupt.

His vehicle was also smashed.

Following the incident, Alycious Howe took to his Facebook confirming that he was attacked due to his proximity to the Liberian Government. According to him, he had gone to visit Mr. Joseph Blama, a lecturer at the University but came across the group of students who attacked him.

These acts by the students seem to be normal activities by SUP. Recently, similar actions were carried out against the Vice President of Liberia, Jewel Howard Taylor on January 25, 2023, by rampaging students while she attended the launch of the UL fisheries program.

Also, in February of this year, Some students believe to be members of the Student Unification Party (SUP) at the University of Liberia main campus on Friday also chased out sanctioned former solicitor general, Syrenius Cepheus from the campus.

According to the students, Cephus as an elite figure of the government getting involved in all of the irregularities suppressed the growth and advancement of the university.
