University of Liberia Suspends Student Politics- Latest Liberian News
The administration of the University of Liberia through its president, Dr. Julius Nelson, Jr. says no student politics are allowed on all UL campuses until further notice.
The suspension comes in the wake of the Monday, March 13, 2023 violence on the UL campus that led to the injuries of several students and destruction and theft of properties and office equipment of the university and staff.
The violence erupted as the result of a scuffle between supporters of Rep. Acarous M. Gray and members of the vanguard Student Unification Party (SUP) of the University of Liberia.
The pronouncement which mandate all students keep in strict conformity also discouraged political gathering.
“No political group shall assemble or hold meetings or engage in any politically-related activities on any of the University of Liberia campuses during this period of suspension,” Dr. Nelson said.
The suspension also affects political/solidarity marches, political gatherings, the wearing of symbols and emblems depicting and promoting campus-based political groups, and student protests, among others.
Accordingly, violators will be severely sanctioned in keeping with the UL Revised Student Handbook.
