UP Applauds U.S. Gov’t for Hitting Weah’s “Corrupt Officials” with Sanction, Calls for their Immediate Dismissal
MONROVIA – The opposition Unity Party has commended the U.S. Department of Treasury’s Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) for placing needed sanctions on three officials of the Weah led government.
The Minister of State for Presidential Affairs Nathaniel McGill, Managing Director of the National Port Authority Bill Twehway and Liberia’s Solicitor General Semah Syrenius Cephus were on August 15, 2022 sanctioned for corruption, and organized abuse of state resources among other crimes.

The UP, in a statement released after the announcement on Monday, called on the named officials of government to immediately resign or be fired from their positions as they have betrayed the trust of the Liberian people, polluted the governance system of the country and brought shame and disgrace to the people of Liberia.
“The UP thanked the government and people of the United States of America for always standing with the Liberian people in the fight against corruption and abuse of public funds.
“Unity Party commends the U.S government for sanctioning some senior officials of the Weah government and demands the immediate dismissal or resignation of the sanctioned officials,” the party stated.
