Liberia bow to Cape Verde in WAFU Under-20 opener

Liberia lost 2-1 to Cape Verde in the opening match at the 2022 West African Football Union (WAFU Zone ‘A’) men’s under-20 Nations Cup finals at the Stade Cheikha Ould Boïdiya in Nouakchott on Sunday evening.

The defense of Liberia started the match at a slow pace that resulted in a penalty which was converted by Erickson Tavares, giving the Blue Sharks of Cape Verde an easy finish past goalkeeper Teddy Kollie.

Liberia had the opportunity to go ahead after they had the better part of the first half with possession, and creativity but were unable to get a goal.

And with a slight mistake from the defense, Luis Maurício restored Cape Verde’s lead in the forty-first minute of the match.

However, the Lonestar responded well through Devine Roosevelt Teah who scored a beautiful strike to level things for the Under-20 Lonestar.

The Lonestar Under-20 made several attempts with nine shots on target and nine shots off target accomulating fifty percent of ball possession and creating nine corner kicks throughout the entire match.

Liberia Under-20 only goal scorer Divine Teah walked away with the Man of the match award for his brilliant performance displayed throughout the match.

The young Lonestar of Liberia will be hoping to grab a win when they welcome Senegal in their second match on Tuesday, August 30th.
