Tensions Continue to Intensify in District #10 Montserrado County- Latest Liberian News

Sinkor, Old Road- Montserrado County District #10 of Rep. Yekeh Kolubah is becoming a center of concern since the commencement of the Biometric Voter Registration (BVR) with increasing tension between some members believed to be supporters of the ruling Coalition for Democratic Change (CDC) and opposition Rep. Kolubah.

On Friday, March 24, some men believe to be supporters of Rep. Kolubah were arrested by the Liberia National Police (LNP) and taken to Zone three Police Depot in Congo Town for allegedly attacking the Chief Accountant and Acting Controller at National Housing Authority (NHA) Mr. Gola Sorsor, on his way home from work on the Old Road and others. It is alleged that they were armed with machetes and cutlasses and wearing jackets with Yekeh Kolubah militant inscriptions. Cars were destroyed.

Members of the CDC Youth League mixed with LNP, citizens look on

However, the latest occurred on Saturday when the Liberia Nationa Police was compelled to use tear gas to disperse members of the CDC Youth League after its chairman, Emmanuel Johnson visited one of the voter’s registration centers to register in District 10.

The Youth League Marched into the district singing registration-awareness slogans from the party headquarters to Old road.

However, following orders by the Liberian National Police to dissolve the group to avoid another possible violence between the group and Rep. Kolubah, the Youth League demanded that the march was intended to have their chairman and other citizens register in the district currently headed by Rep. Yekeh Kolubah.

The situation caused terror among citizens thus closing businesses among others in the district.
