Women’s IHF Trophy Zone III Kickoff in Accra, Liberia in High Spirit – Latest Liberian News

Accra, Ghana- All is set for Seven youth Under eighteen (U18) and four junior, Under twenty (U20) teams from Western Africa to participate in the Women’s IHF Trophy Zone III Africa, in Ghana’s capital, Accra from 11 to 20th of April 2023.
Key among them is the flying female Handball Lonestar of Liberia who is set to participate in the competition for the first time in one decade. Their last appearance was in 2012, when they lost to Nigeria in the semifinals in Accra, Ghana.
However, this year matches will be played at Accra Sports Stadium, Tennis Arena and the winners in both youth and junior categories will qualify for the continental phase of the Women’s IHF Trophy Africa.
Speaking to KOOL 91.9 TALKING SPORTS in Accra ahead of the official match, Under -20 captain, Irene KC Jallah assures sports lovers that the team is set for victory.
” We are ready and trust me we will make history here in Accra and I can say this to all Liberians home and abroad that our belove Country will be the winner, not a participant,” Jallah said.
Like Jallah, Under-18 captain, Revena Lobbo said her team is well prepared for any opponent in the competition.
” We are here to win and not to lose but trust me we are prepared and ready to make Mama Liberia proud again” added Revena Lobbo.
At the youth event, seven participants are divided into two groups, Ghana (Host) Liberia, Nigeria, and Niger will play in Group A, and Benin, Ivory Coast, and Togo have been drawn into Group B.
The Liberia Under-18 and Under -20 will kick start their campaign on Tuesday against Host Ghana at the Accra Sports Stadium in Accra City at 16GMT and 18GMT respectively.
Following the round-robin tournaments, the two best teams from both groups will progress to the semi-finals, which are scheduled for 14 April. The final and the third-place match will be held on 15 April.
The format of the junior event is different, as it only features four teams Benin, Ivory Coast, Ghana, and Liberia. After the round-robin tournament, the two best teams will meet in the final on 15 April, and the day before, the two other participants will fight for the bronze.
