Liberia's House of Representatives is frustrated with the consistent refusal of the CEO of Orange Liberia to honor their invitations

Monrovia, Liberia: The House of Representatives has summoned the Chief Executive Officer of Orange Liberia, Jean Marius Yao, to appear before the legislative body on Wednesday, February 19, 2025.

The notice of summon is to afford Marius Yao to explain why he should not be held in contempt for consistently failing to respond to invitations from the House.

This decision was made on Monday, February 17, 2025, during a public hearing conducted by an ad hoc committee investigating the Global System for Mobile Communications (GSM) companies and regulatory authorities regarding ongoing network connectivity issues in Maryland County and other parts of the country.

During the hearing, it was noted that the Orange Liberia boss has repeatedly declined to attend when invited, often offering excuses that were considered inadequate.

One committee member, Representative Dorwohn Twain Gleekia of Nimba County Electoral District Six, stated that he has served on the Post and Telecommunications Committee for the past eight years and has observed a consistent pattern of disregard for legislative invitations from the Orange Liberia Chief Executive Officer.

Consequently, the proxy representing Orange Liberia at the hearing was excused, and the committee resolved to summon Marius Yao to appear personally before the House.

Failure to do so would be viewed as an obstruction of legislative functions, potentially resulting in contempt charges.

The House of Representatives is committed to ensuring that GSM companies comply with regulatory requirements and address concerns regarding poor network connectivity that affect citizens, particularly in Maryland County.
