Emergency responders rushed to the scene of a devastating plane crash in Northeast Philadelphia after a small medical jet plummeted from the sky and crashed into a residential neighborhood. The incident occurred near Roosevelt Boulevard and Cottman Avenue, according to police.
The Learjet 55, which was en route from Philadelphia to Springfield, Missouri, departed from the Northeast Philadelphia Airport before experiencing a catastrophic failure that led to its crash landing at around 6:07 p.m. The first emergency calls were received at 6:12 p.m.
The aircraft's impact sparked multiple fires in nearby houses, prompting an extensive and intense emergency response effort from local authorities.
Transportation Secretary Confirms Six on Board Crashed Plane, Including Pediatric Patient.
United States Secretary of Transportation Sean Duffy has revealed that there were six people on board the medical plane that crashed in Northeast Philadelphia, according to a statement from Jet Rescue Air Ambulance.
The passengers included four crew members, one pediatric patient, and the patient's escort. The pediatric patient had just completed treatment in Philadelphia and was being taken back to Mexico at the time of the crash, the company stated.
Although the company initially said it could not confirm any survivors, a spokesperson added that no names will be released until family members have been notified.The extent of injuries sustained by those on board is unclear, but several people on the ground were reported injured in the incident. According to Temple University Hospital, six individuals were taken to their Jeanes Campus from the crash site, with three being treated and released and three others listed in fair condition.
The Federal Aviation Administration and National Transportation Safety Board are investigating the cause of the crash, with the NTSB leading the inquiry.
