NEC Wraps Up First Phase of Nationwide Tour with Civic Engagement and Operational Assessments

Monrovia, Liberia: The National Elections Commission (NEC) has successfully concluded the first leg of its 2025 nationwide tour, covering 19 magisterial offices across five southeastern counties.
The tour climaxed in Sanniquellie City, Upper Nimba County, marking a significant step in the Commission’s preparations for the country’s next electoral cycle.
The outreach, led by NEC’s Chairperson Madam Davidetta Browne Lansanah, saw a high-level five-member delegation traverse Maryland, River Gee, Grand Gedeh, Grand Kru, and Nimba Counties.
The objective of the outreach is to assess local operational readiness, engage staff and stakeholders, and deepen public understanding of Liberia’s democratic process.
The tour kicked off in Harper, Maryland County, where Chairperson Lansanah and her team stopped at Nathan Barnes Elementary School.
There, a hands-on voter education session brought democracy to life for young learners. Through an interactive demonstration, students role-played as candidates and voters while NEC staff—led by Assistant Magistrate Thomas Wilson—served as polling officials.
“The future of Liberia’s democracy lies in an informed and engaged citizenry,” Chairperson Lansanah told the students and staff, underscoring the Commission’s commitment to early civic education and youth participation.
Beyond civic outreach, the tour had a technical mission where the delegation evaluated the performance and preparedness of NEC’s local offices, offering on-the-spot guidance while emphasizing collaboration with designated oversight commissioners.
NEC’s staff were encouraged to adopt forward-looking strategies for electoral planning, logistics, and community coordination.
At each stop, NEC officials engaged with local stakeholders—community leaders, civil society groups, and local government representatives—to foster trust and promote transparency in electoral processes.
The final leg of the tour took the team through key locations in Grand Gedeh, Tappita, and Sanniquellie, where local offices shared updates on challenges and progress.
These encounters reaffirmed the NEC’s central goal: to lay a solid foundation for a credible, inclusive, and well-organized election in 2025.
As the nationwide tour progresses, future legs will focus on central, western, and northern Liberia, as the NEC continues strengthening its institutional framework, deepening public trust, and ensuring that every vote counts.
