At U.S. Independence Event, Boakai Says Liberia Wants More U.S. Investment

President Boakai Celebrates U.S. Independence Day, Calls for Stronger Economic Ties
President Joseph Nyuma Boakai has praised the long-standing friendship between Liberia and the United States, while encouraging stronger economic partnerships between the two countries.
Speaking at the U.S. Embassy’s celebration of the 249th Independence Day of the United States, held at the James E. Pierre Banquet Hall on Benson Street, President Boakai extended heartfelt congratulations to the American people on behalf of Liberia.
“This day marks not just the birth of a country, but the birth of the idea that freedom, democracy, and opportunity should be at the heart of every nation,” President Boakai said.
He highlighted the deep historical ties between Liberia and the U.S., noting that Liberia’s founding was directly connected to freed African Americans who returned to Africa to build new lives.
“From the beginning, our nations have stood together, in good times and hard times. The U.S. has always been a strong partner, helping Liberia in democracy, development, and peacebuilding. We are truly grateful,” the president added.
President Boakai emphasized that Liberia is now focused on economic diplomacy using foreign relations to attract investment, boost trade, and create jobs for Liberians. He said his government is working to make Liberia a more attractive, business-friendly country with strong institutions and transparency.
He welcomed the U.S. government’s new focus on commercial diplomacy, which aims to promote economic partnerships worldwide.
“This U.S. policy shift matches Liberia’s own goals,” Boakai noted. “We see big opportunities to work together in trade, energy, agriculture, digital technology, infrastructure, and entrepreneurship.”
President Boakai also stressed the importance of involving the American private sector and building business-to-business ties between the two countries.
As he closed, the Liberian leader said this is a special time for both nations to come together and use their partnership to grow stronger economies and help their people live better lives.
“Let us take this chance to strengthen our long friendship, and build a future where both Americans and Liberians can succeed,” President Boakai said.
He ended by wishing the U.S. a happy Independence Day and thanked the American Embassy for the invitation.
