“I Was Lied To”: Former Justice Kabineh Ja’neh Blasts Boakai Government Over Lawlessness and Judicial Disrespect

Monrovia, Liberia: Former Associate Justice Kabineh M. Ja’neh has launched a scathing attack on President Joseph Boakai’s administration, expressing deep regret for backing the Unity Party in the 2023 elections and accusing the current leadership of betraying the rule of law and democratic principles.
In a fierce rebuke, Ja’neh declared he was deceived by a political movement he once believed in—one that promised reform but has now, according to him, become a vehicle for lawlessness, disrespect for the judiciary, and the erosion of constitutional governance.
“I regret ever supporting the Unity Party. I was lied to—and I’m sorry to the Liberian people,” he said, as he condemned what he described as a dangerous culture of political interference.
Ja’neh, a key legal figure who actively supported President Boakai’s rise to power, did not hold back in his condemnation. He accused the administration of openly disregarding tenure laws, undermining the authority of the Supreme Court, and replacing legal integrity with political expediency.
“This is not the party I supported,” he asserted. “There is no respect for tenure positions, no regard for the Supreme Court, and absolutely no commitment to good governance.”
His statement underscores growing dissatisfaction within circles that once supported the ruling establishment. The former Justice’s comments come amid widespread allegations of executive overreach, marginalization of oversight institutions, and a pattern of governance many say mirrors the very system the Unity Party vowed to correct.
Ja’neh’s public reversal is expected to deepen internal tensions and embolden critics both inside and outside government. As the administration faces mounting pressure over transparency, accountability, and institutional independence, his words may serve as a rallying point for those increasingly disillusioned with the promises of change.
Despite outreach efforts, the administration has not responded to the former Justice’s accusations.
