Majority Bloc Plans to Defy Supreme Court Order

The Majority Bloc of the House of Representatives has announced its decision to hold a formal session on Tuesday, October 31, despite a recent directive from the Supreme Court to halt proceedings amidst an ongoing dispute within the legislature.

Speaking during an interview, Rep. Foday Fahnbulleh stated, “We will have a formal session on Tuesday. We are going ahead with our work, the official business of the Liberian people. We will read the directive of the Justice in Chambers, meet in plenary, and discuss it.”

Fahnbulleh asserted that their decision is based on a quorum of over 37 members, meeting the legal threshold to conduct official business.

He added that the presiding officer would be Hon. Clarence Garh, not Hon. Samuel Kogar, whom he dismissed as the unofficial leader of a faction.

“We do not run a bloc,” Fahnbulleh emphasized. “The Justice in Chambers is not acting in keeping with the law. We are going to session. The Legislature functions on a majority precedent.”

The Majority Bloc’s decision to proceed with legislative activities signals escalating tensions within the House, despite the court’s intervention.
