Boakai Meets U.S. Deputy Secretary to Boost Economic Ties

Washington, D.C. In a key diplomatic engagement, U.S. Deputy Secretary of State Christopher Landau met with Liberian President Joseph Boakai to explore new commercial and strategic partnerships between the two nations.
During the meeting, held in Washington, the two leaders discussed expanding U.S. Liberia cooperation in key economic sectors including mining, small business development, and private enterprise growth. Deputy Secretary Landau praised Liberia’s recent agreement to broaden access to the country’s railway system—a move expected to accelerate economic development and boost investor confidence.
He described the railway deal as a major step toward regional integration and a win-win for both American and Liberian interests.
The Deputy Secretary also welcomed Liberia’s upcoming membership on the United Nations Security Council for the 2026–2027 term, emphasizing the importance of continued collaboration on global peace, security, and mutual priorities.
Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening U.S.–Liberia relations and advancing shared goals on the global stage
