Liberian Star JZyNO Lands Stage with Davido, Overshadows CIC's ‘Feature’ Plea

Monrovia, Liberia: Liberian Afrobeats artist JZyNO is set to perform on stage with Nigerian music heavyweight Davido in Dallas, Texas, on July 16. 

The show is part of Davido’s 5IVE Alive Tour, and it marks a major moment for the Liberian music scene on an international platform.

JZyNO, whose real name is Jonathan Pratt, will take the stage at the Toyota Music Factory in Irving, Texas one of the key stops on Davido’s North American tour. 

The appearance comes as the Liberian singer is also in the middle of his own U.S. tour, dubbed the "Liberian Boy Tour."

In a post shared on his official Facebook page, JZyNO thanked Davido and his team for the opportunity, while urging Liberians in the area to come out in numbers with their flags and support the culture.

“Sincere gratitude to @davido and his team... Liberian music to the world, one stage at a time,” he wrote.

JZyNO is best known for his breakout hit Butta My Bread, featuring Ghanaian artist Lasmid, which charted on Billboard’s U.S. Afrobeats Songs list. 

Born in Buchanan, Grand Bassa County, and now based in Ghana, JZyNO has become one of the most recognizable names in Liberia’s modern music export.

His upcoming appearance with Davido adds to a list of high profile performances that also include fellow African stars like Victony, Odumodublvck, and Morravey on the tour bill.

Meanwhile, fellow Liberian artist CIC, also known as Maurice Tosh Gayflor, has drawn criticism after publicly requesting a feature from Davido on social media. 

The request posted under Davido’s announcement of his new single Congratulations stir backlash, with some Facebook users calling it “embarrassing” and “desperate.”

Davido’s 5IVE Alive Tour kicked off on July 11 in Los Angeles and supports his fifth studio album 5IVE, released in April. The tour includes 14 cities across the United States and Canada.

The Liberian superstar JZyNO’s scheduled appearance in Dallas positions him as the first Liberian artist to officially join Davido on a major U.S. tour lineup depicting a notable moment for Liberia’s influence in Afrobeats.
