“We Are Building Liberia, Child by Child” President Boakai Launches Youth Program to Shape the Nation

Monrovia, Liberia: President Joseph Nyuma Boakai has officially launched the Presidential Vacation Enrichment Program and Community Service Projects, a major new initiative aimed at preparing young Liberians to take leadership in the country’s future.
Speaking at the Executive Pavilion in Monrovia, President Boakai said this program is more than just a summer learning activity. It is a national promise to invest in the country’s youth, because, according to him, Liberia’s success in the 21st century depends on education and hard work.
“Learning is leadership. Learning is a legacy. And learning is the lever that will move Liberia forward,” the president said.
President Boakai announced that over 400 Liberian students are now benefiting from government scholarships. These students are enrolled across 20 universities and technical colleges around the country.
He said these scholarships are not just about going to school but about training the next generations of leaders who can help Liberia grow by feeding the nation, building its economy, and healing its people.
“This is what equity looks like. This is how we reduce poverty. This is how we break the chains of inequality,” he added.
The government has also recruited 100 youth teachers from the scholarship program. These young people will teach and mentor others, helping to grow leadership and responsibility among their peers.
All scholarship recipients are expected to give back through community service. They will work in local schools, clinics, farms, and other community projects. The President made it clear: “To whom much is given, much is expected.”
President Boakai praised young Liberian entrepreneurs who are turning trash into school bags, creating jobs, and protecting the environment. He said this is part of building a “green economy,” and the government will continue to support youth innovation.
In an emotional message to the youth, President Boakai said Liberian students are not just future leaders, but the leaders of today.
“Your President believes in you. We are investing in your minds, your dreams, and your future,” he said.
He encouraged students to take this opportunity seriously and to work hard to help build the Liberia that all citizens dream of.
The President thanked educators, partners, and the Liberian people for their continued support. He called for a national culture where education becomes a top priority.
“We are not just talking about change we are building it, child by child, school by school,” President Boakai said.
