Liberian Legislators have Begun Regional Discussions in Guinea in Preparation for the Launch of the MRU Parliamentary Network

CONAKRY, GUINEA: A high-level legislative delegation from Liberia's House of Representatives is currently in the Republic of Guinea, engaging in critical working sessions as part of preparations for the official launch of the Mano River Union (MRU) Parliamentary Network, slated for later this month in Monrovia.
The Legislative delegation is led by Representative Nehker Gaye, of Nimba County Electoral District #3, Chair of the House’s Foreign Affairs Committee.
According to the House Press and Public Affairs Bureau, the primary objective of the mission is to coordinate with regional counterparts in developing a foundational statute and framework document for the new parliamentary network.
The MRU Parliamentary Network is a landmark initiative aimed at enhancing inter-parliamentary cooperation among MRU member states, Liberia, Guinea, Sierra Leone, and Côte d'Ivoire.
The working session in neighboring Guinea sets the stage for the MRU Speakers’ Meeting, which will bring together heads of parliaments in Monrovia to formally inaugurate the regional legislative body.
Set for this July, the official launch in Monrovia will be hosted by Speaker of the House of Representatives, Richard Nagbe Koon, who will welcome his counterparts from the region.
The event is expected to mark a new chapter in regional integration and legislative diplomacy across West Africa.
“This is more than just a network, it’s a platform for promoting peace, security, and sustainable development through legislative dialogue,” said a House spokesperson.
The formation of the MRU Parliamentary Network underscores Liberia’s leadership role in fostering regional unity and collaboration and signals a renewed commitment to addressing cross-border challenges through institutional synergy and policy alignment.
