House of Representatives Mandates Immediate Review of Liberia National Police Trust Fund Act

Capitol Hill, Liberia: In a move aimed at strengthening national security and modernizing law enforcement, the House of Representatives has instructed its Committees on National Security and Judiciary to conduct a two-week review of a legislative proposal: "An Act to Establish the Liberia National Police Trust Fund of 2025."
Introduced by Representative James M. Kolleh of Bong County Electoral District #2, the bill seeks to create a dedicated trust fund to ensure sustainable and transparent financing for the Liberia National Police.
Designed as a corporate legal entity, the proposed legislation empowered the LNP to acquire property, engage in contracts, sue and be sued, and administer its affairs independently.
The rationale behind the legislation is to support the modernization and operational efficiency of the police force.
According to Representative Kolleh, the trust fund would play a critical role in upgrading security infrastructure, enhancing officer welfare, promoting community policing, strengthening intelligence and surveillance systems, and investing in technology-driven law enforcement initiatives.
“This bill is not just about funding,” Rep. Kolleh stated during the House session. “It is about building a professional, responsive, and trusted police force—one that can meet the complex security demands of a modern Liberia. Transparency and accountability will be central to how the fund operates.”
If enacted, the Liberia National Police Trust Fund could mark a major shift in how security resources are managed, improving emergency response and reinforcing public confidence in law enforcement.
The House committees are expected to return with their findings and recommendations within two weeks.
