Senate Vindicated After Budget Investigation

The Liberian Senate has been vindicated following a special session that reviewed an investigation into alleged budget alterations for the fiscal year 2024. The ad hoc committee concluded that the Senate did not engage in any unauthorized changes, dispelling claims of a letter from the House of Representatives regarding budget withdrawal.

The investigation revealed that discrepancies in the budget resulted from unauthorized actions by the Ministry of Finance and Development Planning, specifically "sector shifting" and "realigning" funds beyond its authority.

Senator Abraham Darius Dillon called for accountability, suggesting that the Acting Minister issue a public apology and pay a $5,000 fine for the confusion caused.

In a statement, Senate Pro Tempore Karnga-Lawrence commended the committee's diligent work, reaffirming the Senate's commitment to integrity and transparency. She emphasized the Senate's dedication to accountability and good governance, ensuring that those responsible for misleading the public will be held accountable as they continue to serve the Liberian people honorably.
