Liberia’s House of Representatives Takes First Quarter Break

Monrovia, Liberia: Under the leadership of controversial Speaker Richard Nagbe Koon, the House of Representatives of the 55th Legislature has adjourned its regular session for the First Quarter of the Second Session in the 2025 Legislative Calendar year.
A statement from the House's Press and Public Affairs Bureau is quoted as saying the first quarter commenced from January 13, 2025, to March 20, 2025.
Giving a statistical report, Deputy House Speaker Thomas P. Fallah disclosed that the first quarter of the second session covered a total number of 25 sittings, which included 17 regular sittings, 3 executive sittings, and 5 leadership sittings.
According to Deputy Speaker Fallah, a total number of bills passed were two (2)—one emanating from the House while the other came from the House of Senate.
He pointed out that 22 legislative items, including bills, resolutions, and petitions, remained under review in committee rooms pending revision.
Additionally, the report detailed 14 appearances in both plenary and leadership sessions, alongside 65 communications received from lawmakers, the executive, institutions, and individuals.
Presiding duties were shared between the Speaker and Deputy Speaker, with a total of 16 sessions presided over during the quarter, Deputy House Speaker Thomas Fallah disclosed.
He commended members of the Lower House for their dedication, emphasizing the importance of maintaining focus on governance and legislative oversight responsibility.
With a total of 144 legislative activities recorded, the report underscores the House of Representatives’ commitment to addressing national issues and advancing its agenda.
The first quarter break is expected to run from March 20, 2025, to the 2nd Friday of May 2025.
