LBDI Poised to Face House of Representatives Cross-examination over Salary Discrepancies at BWI

Monrovia, Liberia: The House of Representatives has cited the Liberia Bank for Development and Investment (LBDI) to provide clarification and proffer immediate remedies regarding ongoing salary discrepancies that are creating tension at the Booker Washington Institute (BWI), one of Liberia’s premier technical vocational learning institutions.
Plenary’s decision was reached during its regular session on Thursday, March 20, 2025, following a communication from Representative Emmanuel Yarh of Margibi County Electoral District #4.
In his communication, Representative Yarh disclosed that for several months, employees of BWI have complained of discrepancies in their monthly salary from the bank alerts and the actual amount received.
According to the workers, multiple appeals have been made to both the BWI Administration and LBDI Management in Kakata for clarification; however, both institutions have failed to provide a clear explanation or resolution to the discrepancies.
In response to Representative Yarh’s concern, the House of Representatives has mandated its Committee on Banking and Currency to engage the LBDI aimed at ensuring transparency and accountability.
The committee is expected to launch its probe one week after the First Quarter Break and report its findings and recommendations to Plenary.
The House emphasized that resolving the issue is critical to maintaining a peaceful and productive work environment at BWI, which remains one of Liberia’s premier vocational and technical institutions.
