CDC Rejects LNP Meeting Request, Accuses Police of Politicization and Misconduct

Monrovia – The Congress for Democratic Change (CDC) has issued a strong response to a request by the Liberia National Police (LNP) to attend a meeting concerning the "Intestate Estate of the late Martha Stubblefield Bernard," accusing the police of politicization and misconduct. In a letter dated October 7, 2024, addressed to the Coalition for Democratic Change chairman, the party rejected the invitation, citing distrust in the LNP's current leadership.
The meeting, initially requested by the Sixth Judicial Circuit Court of Montserrado County, was aimed at resolving legal matters involving the estate.
However, the CDC, in a statement signed by its Secretary General, Jefferson Koijee, refused to engage, claiming a "deep conspiracy" against the party.
The CDC heavily criticized the LNP, accusing it of unprofessional conduct over the past nine months, including failure to uphold its statutory duties and protect citizens. The party highlighted several incidents, including the Kinjor Massacre and the fatal shootings of multiple individuals, which it claims demonstrate the LNP's alleged negligence and human rights violations.
The CDC also accused the police of political bias and violence, particularly during incidents in August 2024, where the party claims its supporters were attacked, causing injuries and property damage.
These actions, according to the CDC, have instilled fear among citizens and reflect what it described as "malicious police practices."
Additionally, the CDC called into question the leadership of Gregory Coleman, linking him to the notorious “Sons of Demons” unit from the Charles Taylor regime and past incidents of violence, including the 2001 University of Liberia invasion.
As a result, the CDC stated it would not meet with the LNP until justice is served for alleged crimes committed against the party and the Liberian people. The party vowed to protect its members and prevent further infringements on its premises or harm to its supporters.
