New UL Student Leader Says It’s Time for Progress, Not Protest

Capitol Hill, Liberia: The new interim president of the University of Liberia Students Union (ULSU), Madam J. Blio B. Tingbain, has called on students to focus on progress and development instead of always protesting. She said it is time for everyone to work together and make the University of Liberia a better place for learning.

Madam Tingbain said the days of fighting and confusion should be over. She wants students to choose peace and teamwork. According to her, a new chapter has started at the university where dialogue and cooperation will be the way forward.

She thanked the students for trusting her to lead them. Madam Tingbain said her victory was not her own, but a win for all students who believe in change. She praised the Student Unification Party (SUP) and other students who stood by her during the election.

“This is your moment,” she told the students. Madam Tingbain encouraged every student, no matter where they come from or what they believe in, to come together and work as one family. She said unity is the key to making things better on campus.

Madam Tingbain outlined three main things she will focus on. These are: bringing students together despite their differences, making the student government open and honest, and strongly standing up for student welfare.

She promised to hold monthly meetings where students can ask questions and get answers from their leaders. Madam Tingbain also said the student government will share reports about how money is used, so students can see how their funds are spent.

Talking about student needs, Madam Tingbain said the university must improve the library, fix the toilets, and reduce school fees. She said these are urgent problems that need quick attention from the school and the government.

“The time for better learning conditions is now,” she said with a strong voice. She told students that her leadership will not sit quietly while students suffer without good facilities and support.

The induction program was full of excitement. Many important people came, including the University of Liberia President Dr. Layli Maparyan, some government officials, teachers, and student leaders from the four student political parties: SUP, SIM, STUDA, and PROSA.

As she starts her work, many students are now hopeful that Madam Tingbain will bring real change. They are watching to see if her plans for unity, transparency, and student welfare will come true.

In Another development Students of the university of Liberia told the same gathering that they will not desist from protest as Long the university Administration continues to do the wrong. “I listened to the new president saying we should disregard protests

well, with all due respect, that’s not happening! Protest is part of our DNA here. As long as the administration keeps making wrong decisions, we’ll keep responding the best way we know how loud and clear, in the streets! If they want peace, they should do right. Until then, protest remains on our timetable… no drop, no withdrawal!”
