14-Year-Old Girl Drowns in St. Paul River in Yarbaryon Clan

The lifeless body of a 14 year old girl has been discovered in Yarbaryon Clan, Fuamah District Bong County discovered in the St. Paul River a day after drowning.

The girl, Angeline Larmie drowned while leaving the farm back to Gonoe's town in Yarbaryon.

Eyewitnesses told this station that the canoe Angeline was peddling capsize after bumping into a log under the water.

The eyewitnesses explained that Angeline and the other two persons on the canoe fell in the water.

“The two other passengers managed their way to dry land,” one eyewitness said, “but Angeline got lost in the strong wave of the St. Paul.”

The Liberia National Police and the office of the clan chief then constituted a 15 member jury who reported that there was no foul play.

He said Angeline is not the only recent victim of drowning in the St. Paul, but many young people have died in the St Paul while looking for livelihood.

“After careful examination and community inquiry,” he said, “we found no evidence of foul play. It was an unfortunate accident.”

He called on the government to provide the residents a better mode of transportation for the community.
