Bong County Senator Reaffirms Senate's Commitment to Transparency and Accountability
MONROVIA: The Chair on Ways, Means, Finance, and Budget Committee of the Liberian Senate, Senator Prince K. Moye of Bong County, has reiterated the Senate's commitment to transparency and accountability under the leadership of President Pro-Tempore Nyonblee Karnga-Lawrence.
During a press conference at held at the Capitol Building on Wednesday, June 19, 2024, Senator Moye addressed the controversy surrounding the budget for the Senate’s recent retreat in Buchanan.
He clarified, "As opposed to the US$700,000.00 allegedly claimed by some media outlets and political pundits, the total budget for the retreat was US$50,000.00."
Senator Moye explained that the US$50,000.00 was a recast budget derived from previous line items, including Constituency Visit and Committee Hearings, to facilitate all expenditures for the retreat.
He further detailed the allocation, stating, "Out of the US$50,000.00 requested, US$47,000.00 was disbursed by the Ministry of Finance and Development Planning. Of this amount, US$42,840.00 was spent on feeding, accommodation, DSA, staff compensation, and security operations, leaving an unexpended balance of US$4,160.00, which will be deposited back into the Senate account."
Senator Moye emphasized the Senate's dedication to transparency, stating that the Senate will do everything to maintain transparency and accountability as well as remain open to provide information to the public at all times.
The Bong County Senator further cautioned the media against unfounded allegations.
"I urge media outlets to desist from making unfounded allegations un-backed by evidence. I challenge anyone to come forth with anything contrary to what I have provided to the media," he asserted.
