Paynesville: The ongoing Montserrado County District League is taking shape by the day as the 17 electoral districts battle in Football for the 2024 championship of the LFA Montserrado County District League.

As the competition continues, District #5 has made a significant move to strike two successive wins and sit at the top of the Zone Two table with 6 points collected from two matches.

The Prescilla Cooper District boys collected their first win against District #3 with a score of 3-0 before holding down District #4 1-0 in their recent encounter at the SKD Practice Pitch in Paynesville.

James Tarpeh took the lead for District #5 in the first half which was enough for the district to capitalize on and pick a hard-fought win against their District #4 counterparts on Wednesday, July 18.

A blow for District #4 in the match came in the 54th minute when Nabinho Zeon was sent off reducing the district to 10 men in the remainder of the game against District #5.

District #4 currently lies at the bottom of Zone Two no point accumulated in two matches so far in the ongoing district league.

Zone Two of the Montserrado County District League holds Districts #5, #6, #3, and #4 with two districts (#5 and #6) currently occupying the qualifying spots in the zone.

The two top teams in each group from Zone One to Four will qualify for the next round of the competition as District #11 currently holds the championship of the Montserrado County District League.

Matches are currently played across several local sports pitches in Montserrado County, as three other counties are set to take the same route later this year.

The District League is part of the Liberia Football Association's (LFA) plan to make football a continued process and showcase the talents of growing footballers in the country.
