Mary Broh Threatens President Boakai’s Assets Recovery Team with Lawsuit over Alleged Defamation of Character

Monrovia, Liberia: The former Director General of the General Services Agency (GSA), now head of the Power Theft Taskforce of the Liberia Electricity Corporation, Madam Mary Broh, has threatened to institute legal action against President Joseph Nyuma Boakai’s Assets Recovery and Property Retrieval Taskforce if the ongoing investigation is politically motivated.
Speaking on the Thursday, April 17, 2025, edition of the OK Morning Rush with host Clarence Jackson, Madam Broh did not mince her words when she said, “If the Assets Recovery Team plays with me, I will sue them. I am not going anywhere,” she declared, indicating her firm resistance to what she perceives as an unfair process.
The task force, operating under the current administration’s anti-corruption drive, has been actively summoning former and current officials of government for questioning in relation to suspected mismanagement of public resources.
While details of the rice saga have not been made public by the task force, reports suggest that it involves questioning over the procurement and distribution of rice during Broh’s time at the GSA—a program that once drew national attention.
Madam Broh, known for her outspoken and action-driven leadership style, stated that she has nothing to hide but will not tolerate any attempts to defame her character without credible evidence.
“I’ve worked for this country with integrity. If anyone believes they can tarnish my name or legacy without facts, I will not hesitate to defend myself in court,” she added.
The former GSA boss has a reputation for being fiercely protective of her public service record, having led several sanitation and administrative reforms during the administrations of Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf and immediate past George Manneh Weah.
The Assets Recovery Task Force is yet to respond publicly to Broh’s comments; however, the exchange has sparked renewed debate over whether the task force is carrying out its mandate impartially or if political influence is creeping into its operations.
As this matter unfolds, many are calling for due process, urging all sides to approach the investigation within the boundary of the law while ensuring accountability and respect for the rights of all individuals involved.
Madam Broh is the only subject of the Assets Recovery Taskforce. AREPT has summoned Madam Nora Finda Bundoo, former Chief of Protocol to ex-President George Weah, for questioning in connection with an ongoing investigation into alleged acts of corruption and economic crimes.
According to an April 14, 2025 communication, Madam Bundoo is being investigated for her alleged role in a series of transactions involving the Anita Group of Companies and its transport subsidiary, Gracious Ride.
She is expected to appear before the Task Force on Thursday, April 17, at 2:30 PM at its headquarters in the Golden Key Compound, ELWA King Gray in Paynesville City, but has stated her unwillingness to honor the invitation.
An AREPT letter under the signature of John Gbilee Shile, Head of Investigation and Intelligence, and approved by Cllr. Edwin Kla Martin, Chairman of AREPT, alleges that Madam Bundoo, while serving as a public official, affixed her name and identity to corporate documents associated with the two entities, which are now under investigation for allegedly acquiring a fleet of Suzuki vehicles through questionable means.
Through her legal counsel, she has declined to appear before the task force; instead, she entreats the task force to indict her if they have evidence to prove the allegation of corruption.
In a communication dated April 16, 2025, Cllr. Abraham Wade Simpson, representing Bundoo, questioned the legitimacy and fairness of the task force’s investigation process.
The letter, addressed to Task Force Chairman Cllr. Edwin Kla Martin, expressed concern that the task force had already reached conclusions on the alleged guilt of the two individuals, potentially compromising their right to a fair hearing.
