Is Bility Eyeing Senate Seat in Nimba Following His New Political Party Establishment ?”

On March 1, 2025, Representative Musa Hassan Bility launched the Citizen Movement for Change (CMC), a transformative political initiative aimed at reshaping Liberia’s future. The event took place in Saclepea, Nimba County, where Bility emphasized that the CMC is not just a political party, but a people-driven movement focused on real change, unity, and prosperity for all Liberians.

In his passionate address, Bility declared, “Yesterday, we did not simply launch another political party; we gave birth to a movement—a movement that belongs to the people, stands with the people, and will fight for the people every single day, whether in government or in opposition.” His words resonated deeply with the audience, especially in a region that has long struggled with the legacy of political division and economic inequality.

A Call for Change

Reflecting on his years in politics, Bility underscored the necessity of a new approach to governance in Liberia. “I have seen the highs and lows of our democracy, the promises made and broken, the hopes raised and crushed. True change cannot come from the top unless the people themselves demand it and drive it forward,” he stated, emphasizing that the CMC aims to break from the past and address the systemic issues that have long hindered Liberia’s progress.

Among the key points Bility raised was the state of Liberia’s economy, which he described as being dominated by outsiders while local entrepreneurs and farmers struggle to thrive. “Liberia is blessed with natural resources—gold, iron ore, diamonds, rubber—but what good is wealth if it does not serve the people? Our economy must work for every Liberian, not just the privileged few,” he asserted, laying out the CMC’s economic agenda.

Economic Agenda and Vision for Liberia

Bility’s vision includes:

Investing in agriculture to achieve food self-sufficiency and enhance export potential.

Renegotiating mining and resource agreements to prioritize Liberia’s interests.

Empowering local businesses to take ownership of the economy and generate opportunities for youth and entrepreneurs.

Liberia must not be a country where success is limited to the well-connected. Every citizen must have a stake in our economic future,” Bility emphasized, outlining a plan to build an inclusive and sustainable economy that benefits all Liberians.

In his speech, Bility expressed a desire for Liberia to reclaim its leadership role on the African continent and in global affairs. “We were once a leader on the continent, helping to establish the United Nations, the African Union, and ECOWAS. Today, we must engage in trade, diplomacy, and regional cooperation to ensure that Liberia is not just a spectator but a key player in global decisions,” he said.

Speculation on Future Political Ambitions

Although Bility’s speech focused on the vision for a united and prosperous Liberia, the launch of the Citizen Movement for Change (CMC) has sparked widespread speculation about his political future. While Bility did not explicitly state that he would be running for senator, nor did he announce plans to contest the upcoming Senate elections, many in Nimba County are left to wonder if this new movement is a prelude to a senatorial run.

There is no doubt that Bility’s influence in the region is significant, and his decision to launch the CMC could signal his intentions to seek higher office. However, the lack of a direct statement regarding his candidacy has left many residents in Nimba County questioning whether this movement is merely a call for political change or if it marks the beginning of a personal campaign for the Senate.
