Liberia Begins Civilian Gun Registration Under Executive Order #141”

Monrovia, Liberia: The Government of Liberia has started a nationwide registration of guns that civilians are allowed to own and use. This means many people in the country can now legally have firearms if they follow the rules.

At a press briefing held by the Ministry of Information, the head of the Liberia National Commission on Arms, James Flomoyan, made a strong and clear statement:

All civilians are allowed to use firearms,” he said.

This action is being done because of a new order signed by President Joseph Nyuma Boakai. The order is called Executive Order #141 and was signed in February 2025. It says that all civilians who have guns must register them with the government, starting March 10, 2025.

Flomoyan explained that:Civilians must obtain a possession permit or license from the Arms Commission,” meaning people must get official permission before they can keep or carry guns.

Some people are worried. Liberia went through years of civil war, and now many fear that allowing people to own guns again could bring violence, fear, and danger back into the communities.

Even though there is fear, Flomoyan thanked the government and said:

We are grateful to the government for entrusting us with this vital responsibility.”

Now, many Liberians are watching closely to see what will happen next as the country allows its people to be legally armed.
