County Meet to Feature Night Games Again, Says Minister Bangalu

Monrovia, Liberia: The National County Sports Meet is set to return to nighttime action as the Ministry of Youth and Sports plans to install floodlights at the Samuel Kanyon Doe (SKD) Sports Complex.
Speaking on the Class Reloaded program on Tuesday, June 10, Minister Cole Bangalu announced that engineers will arrive in Liberia by July 8, 2025, to begin work on the lighting system.
“Engineers will arrive in the country by July 8 to commence work on the installation of floodlights at the SKD Sports Complex,” Minister Bangalu said.
The move has been met with enthusiasm from fans and players, who look forward to evening matches under proper lighting conditions. While this isn’t the first time County Meet games have been played at night, it marks a renewed effort to enhance the viewing experience and upgrade stadium facilities.
Ministry Supports Retired Lone Star Players
In addition to the floodlight project, Minister Bangalu revealed that the Ministry has allocated US$25,000 in the national budget to support former senior national football team players.
He clarified that although it is not a formal insurance program, the fund is designed to provide meaningful assistance to retired players who have few options after their careers.
“It’s not an insurance policy, but a support initiative for our legends who gave everything for the national team,” he stated.
The Ministry’s twin initiatives improving stadium infrastructure and supporting former athletes reflect its broader commitment to the development and sustainability of Liberian sports.
