Lawyers Say Social Media Evidence Can’t Be Trusted in Lawmakers’ Case

Defense lawyers for four Liberian lawmakers have rejected social media evidence presented in court, saying it’s unreliable and unclear where it came from.
At a court hearing in Monrovia on June 11, 2025, the lawyers argued that the evidence — shared by a police investigator — was gathered from the internet but had no clear source.
The investigator, Rafael A. Wilson, said the audio clips were found online and on WhatsApp, but admitted he couldn’t name the exact platforms or confirm if the recordings were edited.
Lawyers say this makes the evidence untrustworthy and want it removed from the case.
The four lawmakers — J. Fonati Koffa, Abu Kamara, Jacob Debee, and Dixon Seboe — are facing serious charges like arson, attempted murder, and conspiracy.
The final arguments will be heard on Thursday, June 12.
