President Boakai: First Year Challenges Linked to Previous Administration”

Capitol Hill Liberia: President Joseph Nyuma Boakai has again pointed to the previous administration, under former President George Weah, as a key factor in the difficulties faced during his first year in office. He stated that his government inherited a severely broken economy, which would require time to rebuild.

In his second State of the Nation address, delivered recently outside the Joint Chamber due to a fire outbreak, President Boakai addressed the nation, emphasizing that the Liberian economy was in critical condition when his administration took office. He explained that the first year of his term was focused on stabilizing the economy and securing $398.2 million in funding for vital sectors, including health, education, and agriculture.

The President also highlighted the launch of the AAiD (Accelerated Agricultural and Infrastructure Development), a major initiative he believes will drive the nation’s recovery during his remaining four years in office. With an estimated value of $8.4 billion, 60% of the funding will come from the Liberian government, while the remainder will be sourced from international donors.

Despite the challenges, President Boakai proudly acknowledged the meaningful progress made in key sectors. He noted that his administration successfully expanded the Roberts International Airport (RIA) road from 8 to 20 kilometers. Additionally, he announced that the expansion of the median to Robertsport Road will begin in March 2025 as part of his broader development plans.

Judiciary Absence at the State of the Nation Address

It is important to note that Chief Justice Sie-A-Nyene Yuoh and other members of the Judiciary were unable to attend the President’s address. The Chief Justice is currently in Cairo, Egypt, attending the Annual High-Level Meeting of Chief Justices and Presidents of Supreme and Constitutional Courts of Africa and the Middle East. This prestigious event gathers 58 judicial leaders to discuss critical issues impacting justice and constitutional law across the regions.

Despite the Judiciary’s absence, President Boakai proceeded with his address, highlighting both the challenges and the progress Liberia has made under his leadership.

This version tightens up the message, breaks up long sentences, and removes unnecessary repetition. Let me know if you’d like to make any further changes!
