Former President Weah Lashes UP Govt. Of Targeting Ex- Officials

Just days after the arrest of some former officials of the Weah-Taylor Administration of the CDC by the Unity Party government, former Liberian President George Weah has sharply criticized recent arrest warrants targeting officials from his administration, labeling them as politically motivated.

“Such actions by Boakai's administration undermine the rule of law, and the CDC will resist such actions as a party,” Weah declared.

Weah accused President Boakai's administration of attempting to politicize the judiciary and warned of strong resistance to such efforts. He argued that the current calm from his former ruling party should not be seen as weakness but as a commitment to the rule of law.

Weah urged President Boakai to refrain from using government functions for what he termed a political witch hunt.

"We will mobilize our partisans in the coming days to resist this witch hunt from the UP government," Weah declared. "We call on other political parties to join us in this effort."

Emphasizing the need for national unity, Weah called on Liberians to oppose any actions by the Boakai administration that might threaten the peace maintained over the past 20 years.

"The government shouldn't be selective in the audit process but must be holistic," he added.

Furthermore, former President Weah announced his intention to inform the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) and other international bodies about the alleged targeting of his former officials by the current government.
