Supporter of Madam Edith Gonglo Weh Claim Victory in Nimba Senatorial By-Election

Nimba County, Liberia: Supporters of lone female candidate Madam Edith Gonglo Weh are claiming victory in the just-ended Nimba County senatorial by-election, based on preliminary tally sheets gathered by her campaign team.

Speaking on behalf of the campaign, Mr. Emmanuel Nyato, Madam Weh’s campaign manager, said that results from 90% of polling centers in their possession indicate a strong lead across the county. “District by district, the numbers are clear,” he stated.

Nyato highlighted figures from District One, where Madam Weh reportedly received 7,935 votes compared to 4,929 for her main rival. In District Two, she is said to have secured 6,675 votes while her opponent reportedly garnered 1,093. He credited this performance to growing support for Madam Weh’s message and what he described as a shift away from “failed representation.”

“We believe the people of Nimba have made a choice for better leadership and development,” Nyato said. He further alleged—without presenting evidence—that government money was used in an attempt to influence the election, claiming some voters were bribed to support the opposition.

Despite the confident tone from Weh’s campaign, the National Elections Commission (NEC) has not yet released official results. NEC guidelines caution all parties to await the certified final tally before making conclusions.

While some preliminary results posted at polling stations may reflect different outcomes, Madam Weh’s supporters remain optimistic. They continue to rally behind her candidacy and express confidence in a positive outcome.

Madam Edith Gonglo Weh, a respected figure in Nimba politics, is widely seen as a symbol of grassroots advocacy and gender inclusion in Liberian governance. Her supporters describe her campaign as people-driven and focused on accountability, service, and community empowerment.

As the county awaits the NEC’s official declaration, the atmosphere remains peaceful, with voters across Nimba reflecting on a historic and competitive electoral process.
