Government Rejects Weah’s Allegations in Plot to Oust Speaker Koffa

The Unity Party-led government, headed by President Joseph Nyuma Boakai, has strongly denied allegations of involvement in a plot to remove House Speaker J. Fonati Koffa, dismissing claims by former President George Weah as "preposterous, disgraceful, and unfounded."
In a statement, Acting Information Minister Daniel Sando refuted Weah’s accusations, asserting that the alleged plot is more likely the result of internal power struggles within the Coalition for Democratic Change (CDC). Sando argued, “Mr. Weah is known for fighting proxy battles within his party to maintain control and prevent other leaders from gaining prominence.”
Weah had accused the Boakai-led government of orchestrating efforts to remove Speaker Koffa, but the government swiftly responded, saying that Speaker Koffa's leadership style may have created internal friction within the CDC, and Weah is using the government as a scapegoat. "To suggest that the government is using public funds to influence such actions on Capitol Hill speaks to the depraved mentality of the former president," Sando added.
The Unity Party government reaffirmed its commitment to focusing on its governance agenda, particularly its ARREST plan aimed at benefiting the Liberian people. “We will not be distracted by Mr. Weah’s continuous mudslinging and incendiary comments,” Minister Sando concluded.
Political pundits have suggested that certain lawmakers pushing for Speaker Koffa's removal may have been financially motivated. Shortly after the resolution for Koffa’s ousting was announced, a video surfaced on social media allegedly showing Representative Luther Collins with $15,000 in cash, along with a list of lawmakers reportedly involved in the plot.
Despite the mounting claims, Speaker Koffa’s office has yet to respond publicly, and the Speaker himself is currently out of the country. Meanwhile, the government remains firm in its stance, distancing itself from any involvement in the situation and maintaining its focus on addressing the pressing needs of the Liberian people.
